I like it. And fixed the bolded 0 for the no new private messages as well.

Good job. I don't know if I like the blue though. Can you make that customizeable in the profile? That's be awesome.

I like it a lot better! Not only do I have quick access to the main site, but the new buddy list on the top left gets rid of some of the ads in the way so it actually makes use of that space. Very cool design.

The only thing I don't like is that damned blue adbar. Put ALL the ads on the left hand side under the navigation menu and I'll be very, very happy with AT and FT. That's quite a bit of space still being wasted.

It took me a while to get used to it, but I kinda like having more on the left side than just an advert. It is nice to not have to go to the today page to get that info and the PM right there is kewl, too.

Once again, like a broken record... I will ask that PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us some leeway on the color schemes.

I guess I'll just echo what other folks have already said. I like the integration with AT and the fact that the menu bar adds functionality where before there was only an ad. It would be nice in the future to be able to customize it though.

I realize that the blue bars are that color because that's how they are on the AT pages but they really clash with some of the themes. I'm also curious why there's an option to turn the sidebar off in our profiles if it doesn't do anything.

What's with the huge gobs of blue that don't match the themes? 2 steps forward, 3 steps back.

From an advertiser's perspective, that is precisely why they want the ad on the left.

Well maybe I am the only one like this but if I don't like a commercial or ad (or how they use it) I specifically don't buy that product. For example I HATE the commercials for the Gap. (The ones were people dance and stuff.) So when they came like 5 years ago I pledged not to ever buy anything from them. And to this day I have not bought anything, nor have I stepped into their store. That includes old navy and all their other stores!

So I actively don't click on the ads.

Hell, move the ads to the top or bottom, get rid of the hideous blue bar, give me my 100 odd pixels on the left side back, and i'll click on every single damn ad i see.

The new look is pretty great, however, as many people here have, I must protest the ads (and other sections there) to the left. I don't mind ads as long as they dont intrude on text viewing area. The top/bottom ads are alright as they do not shrink the margins for text/posts. This can be a problem for lower-resolution monitors as it creates situations where excessive scrolling is wanted to view text. I do like the links to the main site on top though... congrats on that part.

I like it as is... nice job...

One question.... are the forums listed in any particular order? Can they be sorted alphabetically perhaps?

Thanks again for the great work!

the forums seem to be listed in the order that they have been for the past 4.5 years...

the main anandtech navigation buttons at the top need to be resizable - it is unacceptable that they are 1024 pixels wide and that i must be full screen at 1024 if i dont want a scroll bar at the bottm. it just looks bad.

i for one would like an option to turn off the side menu... it is much more space efficient for it to be replaced by the old drop down box. with the old design, ads could be turned off with the right settings in firefox and the space regained... i would like this back if it is possible. and is there a reason why the drop down box appears when i am not logged in but does not when i am logged in?

still want the return of the drop down box at the bottom of the page - far more convienient than scrolling way back up to the top.

I agree with Confused and Remy. I don't like the left-hand sidebar menu at all. I am also a subscriber; I paid $30 a year to not have something taking up space on the left hand side, consuming the usable width of the message area. Would you be willing to allow subscribers (for as long assubcriptions remain)to disable the sidebar?

Ok, I didn't think I would say this but, I think this latest layout is absolutely horrible. It was better (but even better before any of these changes happened) before. I don't like the big banner/logo/blue space at the top there, it just looks ugly and takes up wayyyy too much space.
What you should do is remove or move the banner/logo/blue space at the top section there, and move that top header with the tabs down, on top of forum buttons part.

Another thing -- bring back the combo dropdown box. It is much easier to use and read.

One last issue, bring the Private Messages link to the top where it was before.

Phew, I had to get that out.
P.S. In addition, the blue I mentioned on the top there looks ugly if you have the black theme on (which a lot of us do).

I'm a fan. You've made the ad space off to the left useful for other things too. Very nice.

Lookin' good! I really like the My Menu on the left

<edit> I mean I like the menu, not that it's on the left side Move it to the right (along w/ the ads of course), change the blue bars to something that fits the color scheme better and it would look much better. </edit>

Absolutely hideous. Wish we could have a "theme" that removed all the crap and put it back to last week.

Jason, It looks great. Very good job. I am impressed. Checked it on a 17" Trinitron on both my Mac with OSX and PC and it looks very good at 1024x768 and even better at 1280x1024.

Like everyone else I think I have to complain about the size of the blue bar at top... I'm sure there is some way to remedy this, but I'd say I'm as stumped as you about how. Additionally, when you choose a different color theme, things don't seem to match up with the stuff at top and bottom. I know it would be a huge workload, but maybe you could whip up a script to display different colors for the bar and perhaps the AT menu (if you're feeling really dangerous ) when a different color scheme is slected for the forum.

Also, another idea now that we don't have the blinking icon for new private messages, maybe you could write a small java snippet to make the link to private messages blink from the regular and red or yellow when there is a new message.

Kudos for working hard, hope things only get better from here.. or something like that..
