Oh, and I found out SC4 has massive problems with ATI videocard for the last couple years. I looked up some possible solutions last night that I haven't tried yet.

At first I was massively confused why a game from 2003 was bringing my new computer to a crawl

This is the thread that I found which seems to directly relate to my issues with lagging.

I have an e8400 and ATI 4850 running XP with 4gig of ram (3.25 showing in system info).

I'm planning on trying the fix suggested in the last post. If that doesn't work, I'll just run in software mode.

one of the main reasons I haven't played it since ~2004. sluggish and oftentimes I get a giant, anomolous pole rising from the center of my city and extending up and out into infinity.

oh baby

I turned on software graphics and it seems to be moving along much nicer now. I have yet to start a city on a large land section though, so I don't know how it will hold up under that kind of stress.

I remember when I got back into it 2 years ago me and my buddy had a contest to get the biggest city...I learned that it is nearly impossible to get past 2.5 million while he hit 2.8 million...highways couldn't support traffic everyone was unemployed and subway systems had to move over a million people...it was terrible...but the plus side everything was covered in giant towers besides the river I had in the middle lol
