The X38 preview/reviews have started so it looks like you can forget about the P35 roundup for a few weeks/months.
Surely they're finished and it's just a case of uploading the articles to the site?

Besides being set up with the piping for water cooling, they also came with a HD Sound Card of some kind (Azelia HD Audio). I just wonder what kind of sound you can get from that sound card. The motherboard comes with some intersting features. For instance it has an LED readout, it has jumpers with switches instead of pins. The motherboard is designed from top to bottom for overclocking. It is also pricey.

I dont know if anyone has tested it yet or not.

Personally, I am just curious.

Latest from Gary Key:

µATX G33 will be next Wednesday and will include the NV MCP73, the first P35 series will start this Friday with the Foxconn MARS board and the abit/Gigabyte mid-range boards late next week. The AMD µATX is scheduled on 10/2 with the budget P35 boards following on 10/5.

Hmm, >6 months later and still no roundup. Have you chosen yet, anyway?

Maybe they're waiting for the motherboards to disappear from store shelves. Or maybe they are running a test to see how many times they can can promise that the roundup is coming without loosing all credibility.

May 21, 2007: "We will go in depth about the board and its features in our P35 roundup before Computex." "We will greatly expand our overclocking results for the roundup that will include five different CPUs." Well, I guess they didn't say which year's Computex.

May 23rd, 2007: "We will go over storage, networking, and audio functionality in detail in our P35 roundup."

Jun 26, 2007: "The only question that remains is how well it compares to new P35 boards from Biostar, abit, Foxconn, and Gigabyte in this price range. That question will be answered in our roundup shortly..."

August 7th, 2007: "Oh, we almost forgot: we get to do this all over again with the P35 motherboards when we're done with the µATX segment."

08/08/2007 (Gary, in this thread): "It is scheduled on the 20th..."

If they aren't going to do it, I wish they would just say so.

Some of the tested boards are no longer available. There is a post somewhere that gave some insight on which boards were
the favorites.

You might mean Gary Key's post in the first page of this thread. (I don't know how to link to it.) But I think all of the boards in his tentative rating are still available as far as I can tell.

I should have been more specific, the Gigabyte boards have gone through several revisions,
and the GA-P35-DS3P is now the GA-EP35-DS3P. Chances are that performance are fairly
similar, but the article would obviously be dated.

Thanks.

I take it then, Chumly here doesn't know what he is talking about (the E means the chipset was binned lower somehow). I noticed he also thought the board was a 965 board, somehow.

correct, afaik in the new Gigabyte scheme of things it means that it has their DES (energy saving) technology.

In abit terms the IP35-E isn't a lower binned chipset from the IP35 but it is lower featured -has ICH9 instead of ICH9R & doesn't have firewire.
You could perhaps surmise that for Gigabyte the E means energy & for the abit Economy.

Yeah, I would take that with a grain of salt. Since Gigabyte added the energy saving stuff, I
guess they felt a model name change was needed. AFAIK, the EP35 is the 2.1 revision of
the GA-P35-DS3P. Other DS3 models have also made the same name change.

i would like to see a review of asrocks p35 motherboards. the only one i have seen so far was over at overclockersworkbench.

they look to be packed with high-end goodies. ddr2 and ddr3 slots. two pci-e slots for crossfire. enough pci slots--high end sound and wi-fi. not a bad looking deal. since i have a sack full of ip35e's i won't be buying one any time soon anyway--unless i find a super deal--lol

So far the GA-EP35-DS3P is the only EP35 one I've seen sold anywhere, and that's only at Newegg. I guess they are very new. I wonder if the only difference is the software included? I've seen Rev. 2.1 mentioned for the P35 (no-E) boards on Gigabyte's site.

EDIT: FWIW, Gigabyte's press release announcing the "Dynamic Energy Saver Motherboards" is here. It is dated "2008/01/16". So I guess they are kinda new. (I just stumbled upon it.)

EDIT 2: In another thread, murymury pointed me to this TweakTown article about DES, which provided a link to Gigabyte's DES page.

Are you suprised? Heck, we could have done our own roundup at this rate. Just buy the boards at retail (might even be better than receiving handpicked review samples). Test those boards. Afterwards sell them off for a small loss.
