Kristopher,

Just emailed this as well, but:

Can you update the price engine to show whether the product is OEM or Retail? This is very important because OEM/Retail products can vary greatly, such as CPU's which have no heatsink for OEM versions, or products with shorter warranties than retail versions.

I *think* I'm looking for a button in the lower right hand corner that says RSS. I've seen this before when I use woot.
Some sites are configured to put that little icon. Slashdot is.

If you need to Live Bookmark an RSS feed that doesn't have that icon, go to Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks, File, New Live Bookmark, then paste in the link.

Then, go back to the browser, press ctrl-B to open the bookmarks sidebar, and you can click through the links to see each product page!

Kristopher,

Just add this to the price guide page to get the little icon in the corner (you already do it for news/articles):

<LINK REL="alternate" TITLE="AnandTech Real Time Price Engine (RTPE) RSS Feed" HREF="http://labs.anandtech.com/rss.aspx" TYPE="application/rss+xml">

EDIT: Ok, I actually read the method and it works for me now. Sorry.
PS: Whatever you do, don't scroll to the bottom and select "Open in tabs" hehe.

I only get the following in Firefox 1.0:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

I'd like to take a moment to provide some input to the RSS feed, having been fetching the feed from Thunderbird for the past several days now.

The immense size of the feed is a little overwhelming but it's nice that it's very detailed. There's only a single thing I'd like to change from the general feed: remove the price and perhaps a few model details.

The problem I'm finding is that while the engine updates frequently. Parts and products change in prices every so often and so I'm happy that I can keep up with some of the changes. The problem is multiple entries for the same item -- an Athlon 64 3200+ for instance. Eventually, as I continue to refresh the feed every 30 minutes, I'll see the same entry over and over again except the only difference will be the price in its title. So I propose that the price portion is removed.

I do not know how other products are listed. And some also changes in what is the cheapest. Because NV and ATi products can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, I'd like to only know the particular model type, such as the GeForce 6800 GT or the X800 XL. Instead of placing the 3rd-party manufacturer's name, like Gigabyte for instance, have it placed in the description instead.

I believe that this method will be better as it becomes easier to read rather than having to simply view the title of the new entries. The entries can be continually updated and, in theory with other RSS aggregators, can be determined if the entry is recently updated or changed.

I'm utterly baffled by your comments...

... the price is the most useful part. So you can find the lowest price on whatever you're looking for. Isn't that the whole point?

Because video cards vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, that the reason to SHOW the manufacturer in the name, and not hide it in the description!

And why would you refresh the feed every 30 minutes if you weren't looking for price changes? Are you waiting for a new model to come out??

I am relatively new to RSS thanks to Firefox 1.0. I have used this price engine several times. Given the massive number of items listed, is it possible to have submenus (say, CPU, RAM, Video card, etc.) with the individual items in the appropriate category?

Same here.
That's all it is. Just like if you look at a web page in a text viewer, all you'd see is HTML code.

You need to use an RSS reader, or add it as a Firefox live bookmark as described above.

At the silent behest of the patrons of this thread, would like to reiterate the request of this feature.

Should not be all that difficult to do, as it seems in most cases the engine is already capturing the model number, and the model numbers seem to differ (Example: ADA3200DIK4BI (OEM) v ADA3200BIBOX (Retail)).

Anyone have a quick guide to RSS? I've seen it around, but I don't know exactly how to use it.

Thanks.

SWEET

I support the recommendation for (re)categorization and splitting the list up to enhance readiblity. SAGE in Ffx now shows me 738 items! Although enabling the Feed Item List under Options (for SAGE) makes it quite eminently readable and neatly numbered.
