Once this thing gets going we are going to benefit from the savviest shoppers on the planet.
Fantastic idea.

To answer a previous question about RR.
Sysopt was bought out by Internet.com which has accumulated a lot of sites over the last couple of years. They own Sharky's and VirtualDr forums just to name a few. Don't know why they dropped RR.
I contacted one of the big guns there this evening but have not heard back yet. Since it is back up (temporary?) maybe they changed their minds. The previous owners as stated earlier did not spend much time getting rid of double posts and keeping the shops from posting phony positive evals.

Hopefully this, and a couple of others popping up, will be more on the ball there.
Maybe I-Com will too if they keep RR up.

The more eval sites the better IMO. Never hurts to see a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

I have one reservation with the one here though. Will it be unbiased to shops that advertise here?
What happens when BB does another price mistake and the evals reflect unhappiness with that.At least with Crucial there will be rarely a bad eval. Personally, I like BB.

Great idea to have vendor ratings. On my first rating, I found that I had made a mistake. I found that I had given Gateway Accessory Store a "thumbs down" when it should have been a "thumbs up". I don't think there is a "preview" feature on ratings, and once they are posted I couldn't find a way to "edit" them. Otherwise it seems to work great.

It does not bother me one bit if he takes over, especially if he keeps adding services like this. I visit no other hardware sites (well maybe a couple others ) and base most of my hardware decisions from his site and this forum.

It is a bit confusing to figure out how to add a vendor to the list, but I figured it out finally. (Choose the other option in the vendor list)

I also had the pleasure to be the first person to rate "Case-mod.com" which is a great site run by a fellow AT member.

Excellent!! This looks like a great thing. I'm glad to see that RR is back up, but I agree with the above comments that this will probably end up to be a better idea. It IS tied to forums id's and the mods generally can see if people are using multiple accounts to say things in forums, so they should be able to on the ratings thing too. I think that its probable that far more ratings here will be based upon accurate experiances, and real customers than resellerratings. Its going to be harder for the vendors to try and increase thier ratings illegitimatly. I posted my experiance at newegg, positive. Thanks again Anand!!

It took me a minute to figure out how to add a new retailer, so I'll post detailed instructions for everyone:

Go to http://www.anandtech.com/ratings/
Click the Rate Vendor link near the top. Do NOT click on the Rate buttons next to the listings, I made this mistake the first time.
A little window will pop up that says select vendor. As mentioned at the top Please select a Vendor to rate, if the vendor does not exist choose Other. , pick Other (at the bottom of the list) to be able to add a vendor. Then click continue button.
You will then be prompted for the company name and the URL of website.

Please be sure to be as accurate as possible on company name, we don't want 5 versions of the company in the database. Also, before creating a vendor search the list the make sure its not in the list, and if it is, use the current name with the most ratings, even if its not totally accurate. For instance, NewEgg is in the list under New Egg with 150 ratings, and someone put another newegg in there called like NewEgg Hardware Test with one rating or something. In this case you would want to use the New Egg entry.

Anyway thats it. It should be a clear enough tutorial for people to add vendors.

Thanks Devistater for the info. I added dbuys.com which is an electronics company that has great prices on electronics. Not grey market goods either.

ahhh, the greatest thing since britney spears.. (or was it sliced bread) oh same thing. A big thankyou to all the work that surely went behind getting this up and running and on such short notice (?) as well.

To Zuni:

A few suggestions: What is the point of having to click "click to view more comments" to see the actual review? It might as well just list them all right away.. it took me (and probably others) reading thru the forum thread to realize that there was more than just one line reviews (maybe i'm just slow like that).

Second, like resellerratings, the comments should be listed with the most recently added review first, and down thru to the oldest ones last. I shouldn't have to read through all the old reviews everytime. Of course this will only become more important as time goes on. Also companies DO change: sometimes for the better, sometimes worse, and the newest reviews would reflect that to the casual observer who wouldn't have time to scroll to the bottom of the list.

Finally, and again pardon my slowness, but i keep clicking on the business name link expecting to see the REVIEWS... not their website (doesn't that make sense to anyone else) If I want to go shopping I'll open up a new window and go there myself. I come here to read the reviews! -- and yes I do know that i can click on "view" to see them now!

hope these ideas just make for a better service

cheers

edit: w00t! my 50th post. I'm not a junior member anymore --oh wait when did that happen again

I'm not convinced that ResellerRatings is REALLY back. Several days ago I posted at ResellerRatings a positive review on a new company, Comark, that I had a great experience with. The review still has not shown up there.
