i'm on F@H, but seriously, if u have some CPU cycles going to waste theres no reason not to run a DC client.

Hurting for what? All you do is leave your computers on trying to make the numbers on some website go higher. Just make your own webpage with a really high number on it and you'll be winning!

Fun for us, we are in an ongoing race with BBR and that puts them within about 3 days of passing us.

BroadBand Reports Team Starfire. They are the Seti@home team affiliated to the BroadBand Reports website, we have been in a heated battle with them for well over 2 years. They are about to pass us for 6th place overall in the world

If you have your computer on anyway, it will only be using a little more power than not running a DC project. Your CPU will be running at a constant temperature, which is probably better for them (why do servers run 24/7 and in a temperature controlled environment? That's cos it's good for them to run like that!)

If you have any other programs that need to use your CPU, then Seti@home (and all other Distributed Computing applications) will give CPU power to those programs. That's how they're designed to work

Ok, I signed up. I'll only be running it on one system though (XP1800+ @ 2GHz).

Best I can do I'm afraid.

If someone would like to donate an Athlon XP that's better than an XP1700 I could upgrade my 2nd rig and crank out some more WU's (if you've unlocked a T-Bred so the multi can be changed on a KT266 chipset that would be cool)... I'm averaging about 13 per day between my XP1700 that's always running, and my main rig that doesn't run SETI 24/7

I'll plug in my main rig tonight. Can't promise anything more - Internet access to the rest of them is sketchy at best (Dialup - only method to get to most of the fleet is ICS, which I refuse to run and some others intermittantly dial-in, so operating a router would confuse the crap out of the modem-equipped machines)

EyeMWing,

In your situation, as I'm guessing all the machines are networked(?), you may wish to look at running a SetiQueue on your internet-equipped machine. This will allow you to have all your other networked machines talking to the queue, which will in turn talk to Seti@home. It will provide you with a central point for caching Work Units (so that you can continue to run while you are offline) and will also allow you to specify when you want the completed results to upload and download new work units

If you need any help on setting this up, PM me or put up a post in the DC forum asking for help
