In your situation, as I'm guessing all the machines are networked(?), you may wish to look at running a SetiQueue on your internet-equipped machine. This will allow you to have all your other networked machines talking to the queue, which will in turn talk to Seti@home. It will provide you with a central point for caching Work Units (so that you can continue to run while you are offline) and will also allow you to specify when you want the completed results to upload and download new work units

If you need any help on setting this up, PM me or put up a post in the DC forum asking for help

Garry

Will definitely look into it, thanks

To anyone who has just signed up or is planning to....Thanks a lot, we really do need new team-mates at this time.

I am planning to upgrade my mums PC from a PII 300 to a Duron 1.6ghz (Duron XP 1900+) in about a month....might not be in time though, but I have managed to up my WU's from 10 per day to about 13.

i used to do Seti@ home a long time ago...

but i stopped because i did not like the screensaver.

Is tehre a way I can have Seti active only while my system is not being used (ie screensaver mode)?

I have several desktops (2 for sure, maybe 5), as well as a server at my home too....

If someone can help me set it up the best way, w/o it being obtrusive or interrupting my CPU utilization needs when i'm using the computer, i'd be glad to be part of the team!

Rufio,

The SETI CLI *only* uses idle CPU time. I've ripped/burned CDs/DVDs, encoded MPEGs, etc. all with the SETI CLI in the background. Plus the CLI will process many more Work Units (WUs) per day...processing more and more data received from Arecibo.

Actually, I have it on my dad's PC (an older PIII 500) but he has some screensaver that displays hi-res graphics (and changes every 30 secs) and it pretty much knocks the SETI CLI out of commission (no idle cycles left over for it)

Fun for us, we are in an ongoing race with BBR and that puts them within about 3 days of passing us.

Time to join BBR!!! Sorry, I just would rather be on the winning team.

Is there a FAQ i can read to set this thing up?

I have a screensaver that shows my pictures (like the Mac os X one)....that won't hinder my crunching abilty, will it? I have a p4 2.4ghz as my main system.

As for your screensaver...not too sure. Depends how intensive it is. If it's just showing pics, it should be OK. If it's doing weird transitions and effects with them then it may cut down the Seti work a little

As always, any help needed, PM or ask here or ask in DC forum

Congrats. I'd be happy to hit 4k.

I'm half way there though.

Added bump.

If you have a network of machines and you need it to run at the logon screen you can install it as a service and have each machine point to a setiq on one machine or if you don't want it to run in the taskbar you can use setihide with the client instead of setidriver and it will run unseen.

for those that think "my ol' (whatever slow machine I have) won't make a difference", think again, even my old pentium 166 will put out around 3 WorkUnits a week, If we had a bunch of those added to the team it'd make a huge difference in our overall production. If you don't have/want to crunch under your handle, there are some mini-teams within team anandtech to join too, just head over to the distributed forums and ask.

editr see the rebel alliance link just above this post

I'm averaging about 13 per day between my XP1700 that's always running, and my main rig that doesn't run SETI 24/7

Tbreds are unlocked anyway

Thanks for all the extra helps guys

Don't think this has been mentioned yet but in the coming months S@H2 will be taking over S@H1 & all current S@H1 stats will be frozen & preserved ,so if we keep BBR behind until then it will be foreever
