Normally I try to get people to join our Seti TeAm because I believe it to be a worthy goal.

Now, I'm strictly pushing SETI for the STATS. Let's get Our STATS to beat BBR's STATS.

C'mon people, need more! Since you know you will be passed out for the rest of today (possibly longer) and won't be using your computer, slap SETI on there!! Your turkey will thank you.* Keep in mind, the electricity being used serves three purposes...

1) Checking email/neffing here
2) Crunching SETI units
3) Additional space heater for the cold months ahead

Edit: *If you haven't killed and eaten it yet.

ok i'm trying to recruit more people...

what kind of arguments can i say to people to get them to join?

some of them think there is spyware in the software...
others think it will waste electicity...

what other ways can i persuade others to join?

I have measured my main machine, the difference between having it idle, and having it crunching, is only about 20watts

EDIT: Results Difference: 19278, we are slowly pulling away, but this has been up and down all over the place
. We still need more power!!!:Q

ALso there is no spyware.

What you can do is get Spybot S&D (best anti-spyware tool) or Adaware 6.0 (2nd best), install the DC client, turn it on, run anti-spyware program..voila!!! nothing reasures someone like real proof

And as coolkid said...tell them that if their pc is on anyways the only difference between idle and full power usually is in the 15-30 watt range which = neglibible..

Also, many tests have been done that show that DC will give up cycles for any program @ the slightest inclination IF IF IF the DC client is set to the lowest/idle setting (which it always should be).

once again offer them to test this..

lastly,

beg

Firstly, there's obviously no spyware. Not sure how to convince an idiot otherwise. Tell them to load up adaware/spybot S&D if they don't beleive it? Electrical usage is negligible, and is certainly more worthwhile than leaving the machine running while it serves zero purpose.

My money is still on the space heater argument =)

BBR just started their own "Front Page News" on overtaking the TeAm.

Their SETI team founder quotes "I think we can take them down no problem though." <-- What do you have to say about that? :Q

They have cut about 25% of our lead (a small one at that) in the last hour by new members.

We sincerely need your help. This battle has taken place for 2 1/2 years....with them nipping on our heels the whole time.

SETI should be ending soon....and would really be nice to stay one step ahead!

Come on over to the DC fourm....you'll not find a better group of TeAmmates anywhere!

See you there!

another quote:

It will be great to see what this does to our defecit as we ramp up to catch those pesky TeAm members illegally parked in our space!! (It says that the 6th space belongs to Team Starfire on our permit) so we need to put this to rest once and for all...

6th place belongs to the team that is there both currently and when it ends. Help keep us there...or even better, take us to 5th!

We're waiting!

Well, BBR has shaved off 80% of our lead in the last 7 hours. They are on a recruiting drive (front page) and are bringing in new members right and left. If anyone out there would like to help the AnandTech SETI TeAm, we would appreciate your spare cycles and your company in the DC forum.

Thanks all...and goodnight!

No spyware in it ,show them the official S@H site & let them look around it ,that should convince them.
Failing that ,tell them to scan it with Adaware,it won't show up (I know cos I use it)

Re Electricty ,if they only have their PC on when they would of used it anyway it won't make a noticeable difference to their bill

what other ways can i persuade others to join?

Personally I think its cool that we the public can finally help to explore space (in a fashion) & try to find Alien life
I'm sure you can use your own angle on that

Offer free PC work for 'em if they run it for you!

We have had a great week with a great response from our AnandTech family.

The enemy (BBR) has struck back and as usual are very cocky about how they are going to "STOMP ANANDTECH". :|

Here is a little summary of the action during the last four days.

6,887,820 TeAm AnandTech
6,881,127 Broadband Results
6,693 Difference

8,946 11/25/2003 08:17
7,647 11/25/2003 11:52
8,011 11/25/2003 13:06

46,229 11/28/2003 10:31
6,693 11/28/2003 20:11

Notice the drop of approximately 40,000 WUs in the last ten hours.

Come on ... let's show a little AnandTech Pride.

Help your TeAm in the projects last weeks and show just what kind of stuff we are made! :|
