If you can get full written permission to run it on those machines that you don't personally own, then sure, go for it

If you can't get permission to run it, then please don't. We don't want anybody to get into trouble and/or lose their jobs over it.

Edit: Just seen your post above. I now seriously hope you weren't being sarcastic about this.

Their servers are having lots of problem lately. That's why so many people are establishing queues for WUs so that TeAm Anandtech will be well supplied if there ever is a major outage.

Come on, I thought I made it pretty obvious. When you have recruiting threads such as this you should always post a disclaimer so that someone who might have a tendency to get a little over zealous about it doesn't use the same poor judgement as Dave did and end up in a lot of legal hot water.

If you don't have/want to crunch under your handle, there are some mini-teams within team anandtech to join too, just head over to the distributed forums and ask.
I had it running on 3 166's aswell, but i had to shut them off because of power usage

Very true Red Dawn, No one should run any DC project on any machine without permission that doesn't belong to them
No project or web site is worth your job or freedom

actually, uh...

1) because servers need to be run 24/7 (for the most part)
2) so the room does not get too hot, thus overheating the processors

nevertheless, the constant-temperature argument is valid, but the effects are negligible.

bump for a good cause

for those of you debating the idea CLI is the way to go not GUI - I switched recently and went from 15 or so WU a day to 75+ (I also added a couple PCs but the point is it made a huge difference)

Some things i'd like to add to this.
I't best to download the client software from the official SETI site, as well as any of the add-on programs you may want to run.
CLI download page
For all Windows OS's, you want i386-winnt-cmdline.exe v3.08

v 3.03 is faster but there is a security flaw in it, which you can read about here.
There is an easy fix to this flaw, which you can read about here.
v3.03 can be found here:
ftp://alien.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe

S@H add-ons can be found here:
SETI@home Links & Add-ons Page

And yes, only run a DC client on your own computers unless you have written permission.

Is tehre a way I can have Seti active only while my system is not being used (ie screensaver mode)?

I have several desktops (2 for sure, maybe 5), as well as a server at my home too....

If someone can help me set it up the best way, w/o it being obtrusive or interrupting my CPU utilization needs when i'm using the computer, i'd be glad to be part of the team!
If you truly only want SETI to run when a screensaver would run you could try this program. I've never tried it so i don't know how well it works.
Seti Driver Screensaver
I don't feel it's neccessary to run it that way but the choise is yours.

Thanks for all the help everyone!
And don't forget to join the TeAm after you get SETI running.

Setting up S@H with the CLI version will only run in the background. If you are using the computer, it will stop the process. When you get done it will restart. When you are using 25% of your processor power it will use the other 75%. Makes it easy to use.

Wow, does that have HT and if it does are you using setidriver?
If not, reply back and one of us will explain the benefits.
I wish I had that system. My home system is only an athlon 1600.
