Anandtech vs. F@twallet

Hey,

I'm a newbie and was just interested in the history of these deal discussion boards. I know that Anandtech has been around a while and that FW is banned word on the discussion boards. I was just wondering if any of the old timers or anyone else would mind telling me a little history or what exactly happened to cause this tension.

Anandtech is not a deal discussion board. It is a tech site that happens to have forums which happen to contain a deal forum.

Basically, what happened is that AT banned coupon trading on the HD forum because of abuse and threats from Staples regarding this abuse. At that time FW was just starting, and many users migrated over there.

I think its because FW allows coupons to be posted on their website and this is a strict no-no in this board.

Never heard of FW until about a week ago when Rossman referenced it in a thread. My guess is most deals start here then make it there by the shreer lack of references I have seen

not really true, but that's irrevelant. the site is a banned word here because of a contest time held a long time ago when he was trying to spread word of FW...anandtech considered it spamming and banned the word.

Well it looks like I got my question answered in less than 5 minutes Sorry for incorrectly referencing Anandtech to just be a HD forum. I knew this before but have only had the time to explore the HD forum and not the entire site. Thanks for the fast answer.

FW is a much better forum if you're just hunting for deals
