Over last couple of days my machines finally got the anniversary update. Is there a good list to read of the changes?

I know already I don't really like the changes to the start menu.

Classic Shell is what you want. It will look like Win 7 or XP (very close)

Get classic volume control in Win 10

Run, regedit, then navigate to the key below and change the Dword value

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/MTCUVC/
and toggle the Dword from 1 to 0 for the classic look

I'm a fan of the dedicated media control on the keyboard myself. I hate when a manufacturer forces you to use the fn button in conjunction with some hidden features on standard keys.

All that does is change how the Speaker Icon in the right side tray works when you click on it. It will look like the older style with it's features.

Last week, we reported about a broken Windows 10 Cumulative Update released by Microsoft to Windows 10 users and Insiders in the Release Preview ring. To be specific, Microsoft released KB3194496 to Windows 10 Anniversary ?Update (aka Version 1607) users, which brought build number of the OS up to 14393.222. Quite a lot of users were having trouble installing the update, and some reported that Windows 10 kept trying to automatically install the update and constantly failed. Following the reports, Microsoft provided a temporary workaround for the issue which allowed users to install the update. However, Microsoft today released a “proper” fix for this issue which will now allow users to install Windows 10 Build 14393.222 on their machine.

Use the Microsoft upgrade assistance tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and get a legitimate copy right from the source. This tool circumvents WU issues and they released it for this purpose.

..so far Dell is not pushing out the Anniversary update nor do they recommend any work-arounds. MS released two "fixes" in an attempt to resolve the problem. You can also just type winver in Cortana on the toolbar and it will put it in a run window.

I have not even used Cortana that often, but have playing with it more over time.

Have 14936.1000 running atm I'm perfectly happy with.

Why has this update still not been pushed to my computer? It's a Haswell Dell so it's not that old.

Don't rush it. Give the coders at Microsoft time to fix their inevitable bugs. The faster they come out with a new feature or try to change something, the more likely it will have glitches, either in the way it works or the way it installs (some have had trouble installing the Win 10 Anniversary update, for example)

I'm concerned that Dell may be holding it up for some reason. Not that anxious to slip and fall.

My alienware m17xr3 didn't have any dell support either but it upgraded just fine. MS released the tool which allowed people to circumvent issues they were having with WU and it was the method they rolled out for the update in the first place. It was the first time MS released a specific tool for upgrading 10 which is different that the original media creation tool which would also upgrade 10. This tool also kept my files intact when the media creation tool wanted to wipe the system and return it to the OS only. Every pc in the house, 7 of them, has used the upgrade tool to move to 1607 as it never appeared on WU.
