Who cares? Plus the old shroud type puts heat out of the case.
That review read like a paid endorsement to me.
Opinions?
I think that review told it like it is. The reason it might not seem like it is because it goes against the assumptions of most enthusiasts.
To give an example, take a look at the two different GTX 295 models. Original was a dual PCB design with a blower that directed air towards the back while newer design was a single PCB which directed air both front and back.
I would hazard a guess that most enthusiasts, if presented with both cards and knowing the basics of airflow in a chassis, would pick the dual PCB design as the "better" one for cooling.
In reality the opposite is true.
I had done some internal testing, and some reviewers who tested for these things also came to the same conclusion. Sure, the difference was sometimes very small, but regardless of belief the fact is that the more unlikely cooler did a better job, even inside a case with "normal" front->back airflow.
(As an aside, someone on another forum got so pissed at me when I said that the new 295 cooler was "better" in the ways (and had links to two different reviews that said the same thing) that he put me on his ignore list.)
My whole point is that things can seem a whole lot more outrageous if it flies against "conventional wisdom" even if, when viewed dispassionately, it is really quite reasonable.
