Well, at least Creed wasn't on the list.

Dude...you cannot expect every band that has couple of good albums to be on the list like that. Creed was around for what 7 years or more or less..dont remember...but were they as influential as GN'R---> NOOO WAAAY.

Creed is excellent, but definitely not one of those bands which fall into that category.
Hell...Dream Theater is better than Creed.

That band of course is Queensryche. The rest, ehhh, Metallica had a couple of decent songs, I could never get into anything by any of the others though.

A couple of decent songs?!?! How about the whole Master Of Puppets Album? For Whom the Bell Tolls? Fade to Black, One!?!

Still, Metallica shouldn't be number one, but, PJ def. not. Sounds too much like a donkey.

HEEE HAWWW! *mumbling*

OK, they had a few more then a "couple" of decent songs. Pretty much Ride the Lightening was good, Master of Puppets was good, Kill em all was good. But I wouldn't place them anywhere near my top 200 list, let alone my top 25 list.

What a bunch of crap.

"DMB is the epitome of what American rock stands for: huge tours, loud rock and the working class,"

What a load of utter crap. This person wouldn't know "rock music" if it sneaked up behind them and delivered an atomic wedgie!

I honestly can not name a single Pearl Jam song.

YOU SUCK

No, he just never got in <Homer voice>CRAP ROCK</Homer voice>

All I know is all of their songs sound the same...I think they just had one generic song and the singer just made different droaning sounds each time time.

That's the main issue with the general public is that they only know "Alive" or "Jeremy" and think that's all there is to Pearl Jam. Go listen to songs like "Off He Goes", "Given to Fly", "Corduroy", "Wishlist", "State of Love and Trust", "Man of the Hour", and "All Those Yesterdays". You'll see that they are vasty different.

If anything they are one of the most diverse bands ever. I've heard Pearl Jam on rock/alternative, metal, classic rock, contemporary, and even country stations. They've even got some folk songs as well. But I also think this is why they don't have as large of a fan base as other bands. They tend to change their sound from one CD to the next so it's hard for the casual listener to really "get into" them.

What are some of their folk songs?

LOL, so diverse means they are good? Yeah whatever.....

They change styles on every album because they aren't good at any style.

Once again, take a band like Clutch. They are "diverse" not on a album to album way but their MUSIC song by song is diverse. They are TALENTED musicians that utilize many styles in every song they play. Clutch doesn't switch styles, they ARE many styles.

PJ is just a group of old hacks that continue putting out albums by switching musical styles to try an fool people into thinking they are talented.

In Pearl Jam's case, yes being diverse means being good. Their music song by song is diverse as you said. Listen to their Yield CD for example. If I want something with a harder edge and faster beat, I listen to "Brain of J" or "Do the Evolution". If I want something with a more alternative feel, I can listen to "Given to Fly". Softer mood? I listen to "Wishlist". If I feel like listening to something akin to the Beatles? I switch to "All Those Yesterdays".

Sure Pearl Jam is not as talented as many bands out there. I wouldn't consider them the best band out there - not by a long shot. They are my favorite band though. If you're not going to listen to other bands because they aren't as talented or if you believe they are "old hacks", it doesn't bother me...I'm used to people saying Pearl Jam sucks

Dudes this list is wacked!!

Who listens to Pearl Jam seriously? Even thier top selling album "ten" every song sounds the exact same and they were copying the seatttle gruge scene from likes of nirvana. I would have them around 10th at most. Dave Matthews Band? South African and not rock. The Eagles??? Is that even rock or country?

Anyway...IMO none of those fluff boarderline effiminate pop bands should even be listed like nivana, REM and perl jam.

1. GnR ( knock down -- drag out -- boosing -- fusking -- hard core rock n' roll and sold billions)
2. Fleetwood Mac (best song writers ever. best women ever in rock, and huge in the 70s..Rumors is #3 selling album of all time)
3. The Doors ( *the* band from the late 60s)
4. Motley Crue (almost like GnR but wore makeup..blah)
5. The Beach Boys (they were huge in early-mid 60's)
6. Dead (big all the time)
7. Metallica (owned the 90s)
8. Creedence Clearwater Revival (Orgonians sung "born on the bayou" and you believed it.)
9. Van Halen (the best hair band)
10. Bon Jovi (slippery when wet was huge among everyone and good which is rare)

Grateful Dead should be at the top of the list. No band on there comes close to the improv and team playing abilities of the Dead.
And there are some real questionable bands in the top ten. Journey?? Queensryche?? The Eagles?? Barf.

I'll repeat (unless someone can prove me wrong): FM is a british band.

2nd: VH inspired all the 80s hair bands, but they were much more than that.

Live? no doubt about that.. one concert I was at they played "fire on the mountian" for an hour and it never got old.. four hours later they were still jamming... GD's problem is studio. Lots of dud albums lots of dud songs.

50/50
Nicks was born in Phoenix, Arizona. IMO She was the band. I mean all that counts in when they sell albums and singles right? Not that early 70's junk w/o her.
Lindsey in Palo Alto, California.

the rhythm section was brits.

Honorable mentions:
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (music legend)
Soundgarden (power hitters of the 90's)
Live (just plain rock.....at least they used to)
Supertramp (not sure if they're American)
Tool (have had a huge following since their first album)
Nine Inch Nails (Trent's a genious, but I guess technically, they're considered Industrial)

Point to be taken into consideration....if you get really surprised that some phenomenal band is missing in this list.....you can assume its a brit band till you confirm it...
