And I thought I spent too much on beer

I am made from the dust of stars, and the oceans flow in my veins... so yeah

On a more serious note, someone mentioned Narwhal above totally reminded me I have a 3 year vertical I need to break into soon.

edit.. meh only 2014 and 15.

yeah same on the BCS. have one each of 2012-14 and then a handful of 15s. If we get snowed in this weekend they might not survive.

You could make a KILLING selling that Burbon County. Like 2 months ago we got 3 cases of the 2015 in and people were calling every 8 minutes asking if it had been delivered. An Indian guy came in right as we got it delivered, we told him 1 bottle per customer, he proceeded to offer to buy all 3 cases at double the price. I've seen people go crazy for some releases, but from that beer it was on another level. We got literally 100 phones calls in about 2 hours asking about it.

That's pretty cool actually.

I imagine NASA has done similar things on the ISS, but hey WTH, they weren't looking to make beer I imagine.

Reviving this thread. My brother and I went in on a bottle this weekend. Neither of us are huge stout fans, but this beer was great. Very thick. Had a great flavor to it. Definitely the coolest beer I've ingested.

I'm a huge stout fan and that space beer sounds interesting, but I hate the flavor of anise.

I also wonder if beer brewed with hazelnuts or other tree nuts will just have the flavor of the nut or if there will be actual nut proteins in the beer? It would suck to have an allergic reaction to a beer. I already can't enjoy milk stouts due to their lactose content

Somebody mentioned the BA Narwhal earlier. I had that not too long ago and it was delicious. BA beers are definitely overpriced though - for example, the BA Legion from Community is almost double the price of the standard Legion.

Here are some of the beers I've been enjoying recently:

You would be surprised what people will do with a growler. I've had some stuff that was never bottled shipped to me. I was just curious.

They've only sold Younger to go in growlers, but the last time was like five years ago. If you got some now, it would be handbottled in the bathroom or someone would be risking a lot to smuggle it out the back door.

I picked up a six of the Obsidian Stout last weekend, hadn't had it in a couple years. Damn fine beer. Was waffling between that and the Black Butte, but I already had some porter in the fridge.

Black Butte Porter isn't bad, but I think the Obsidian Stout is great

A GOOD BW is hard to make and expensive. Not sure if you ever priced a used whisky barrel, but they run in the hundreds for really good ones from the better distilleries. I have several bottles that were in the $45 range and will be kept for a dozen years or so.

cheapest barley wine at my local liquor store:

$10 for a 4 pack

might try it just to see what barley wine tastes like

I spent about $120 on a case of St Bernardus Abt 12 2 weeks ago, but I just remembered that i'm quitting alcohol with my wife for the next month or so. UGH.
Costco here had a whole pallet of St Bernardus Holliday ale last winter, they were selling cases for $36. My wife only bought one. I was severely bummed.

Just got into Minneapolis, picked up 3 four-packs tonight: Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue, Surly Todd the Axe Man, Surly Abrasive.

Going to drink half of it while I'm here and the other half will go home with me for my usual beer tasting friends. Oddly enough, Pseudo Sue trades pretty well around Detroit but the lady at the store said that TG doesn't sell well in general here. Good news for me, I suppose.

Breckenridge has some outstanding brews. Their 72 Imperial Chocolate Cream Stout's fantastic imho. And it's not pricey at all for a good craft beer.

I have some Saturday Morning Cartoon Milk Stout from Brew Rebelion, the guy who makes it is a very interesting dude we talked for a good while. Every batch he brews he uses a different cereal. He has a lot of funky ass flavors, so not surprisingly people either love his stuff or can't stand it.

this is the one he gave me, it's brewed with actual Apple Jacks. And the bottle's sealed with wax that has real Apple Jacks in it. Haven't drank it yet, I'm a bit scared of it lol

I've gone the opposite route. What I enjoy is finding "good beers" for cheap. I think Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams both do a great job with their batch beers and I feel like I'm drinking a $7 micro brew beer (ie, Sam Adams Utopias, imperials, and even their Rebel Rouser type stuff, for Sierra Nevada it's their IPA's and like Narwhal, etc). If I can spend a $1-$2 on a double IPA that's tasty. MMMM.

But I'm a sucker for a good IPA or a good stout. I thought CA and the Northwest was kind of the mecca. But in the Northeast I think we're pretty lucky that we get some stuff that isn't distributed all over the US. I've had both Heady Topper and Julius (by Tree house). Both in the top 10. These are about the 2 best beers I've ever had. Heck Tree House (Monson, Ma) has like 5 beers of the top 50 in the US, or whatever that Beer Advocate list is supposed to represent. What I often wonder is if they literally control the supply in order to keep up the demand. These little breweries now, you have to wait in line for like an hour and a half and they limit the amount you can buy. Both Alchemist and Tree house allow you to buy like 4 cans of this, 4 cans of that (for like $4-$5 apiece). If there are lines that are hundreds deep and people are paying $5 apiece - woudn't it be prudent to do a massive upgrade so you can at least distribute out of the state that they are in? They literally have NO distribution costs because everyone comes to them. It's a gamble to expand and not be able to sell it (because the market is so competitive now). But there has to be the ability to make money there or big distributors wouldn't do it.
