And that is why I avoid aisle seats on flights

I always try for a window seat and am generally successful. Just got done with my only aisle seat of the year (it was either that or a middle). Fortunately the hour long flight contained all the reminders about why I don't choose them. I took a backpack to the face from a clueless woman during boarding. The entire row behind me needed to use my seat as a spring board to leverage themselves in and out of their seat. I did manage some sleep but a flight attendant was kind enough to wake me up 30 min before landing by ramming the drink cart into my knee with nary an apology

Still better than a middle seat but not the most fun of my life

Did you let the person in when they came or at least stand up to let them get by easier or did you simply stay sitting and forced them to get by with the 6 inches between you and the seat in front of you?

As for the knee issue if you were sticking out in the middle lane that's a risk you take with longer legs.

Why would I get up from my seat when the woman was sitting a row back on the other side of the plane? She Swung the bag around to get it off her back and hit me in the face

I always prefer aisle seats. Give me slightly more room to spread out and have some extra room which is always at a premium in airplanes. Plus obviously if you have to go to the bathroom it's easier.

Best bet is a seat near the back or near one of the exit doors. The seats where the exits are, have a bit more room. And it is much safer in the back of the plane, in the event something goes very wrong. Kinda odd, though, why on Air Force One, the Presidential Suite is in the nose, under the cockpit. So if the plane crashes, he gets it first. They put the Press Corp in the back.

There are usually 2 rows of seats by the Emergency Exit doors. They both have plenty of extra leg room but the 1st row - or the one closest to the front of the plane - does not recline. This way your seat can't block any part of the exit row behind you. So the best seats in the house, without spending money to get to a higher class, is the 2nd row of the Emergency Exit seats. You get the legroom and your seat reclines fully.

This website breaks it down nicely per flight of which seats have what plusses and minuses. I used it a lot when I flew often for work, until I started getting bumped to first class all the time:

All aisle all the time here. Would rather have a little extra space and I never sleep on planes anyway.

Window seat all the way, the view is what makes flying exciting. Got to go on a plane a few times paid by the company and it was pretty fun.

If one knee is in the aisle, you probably have the other one in front of the middle seat. Stop manspreading, shitlord.

Unless it's a senior citizen, I reward that by pushing the recline button when they're at maximum force. Usually drops them back on their ass.

Dude, if your knee is in the aisle, the flight attendant isn't at fault on that one.

Keep all arms and legs in front of you until the ride has come to a complete stop. Barf bags are available on the pounch in front of your seat.

Now hold my checklist watch this! *engines start up at full throttle*

I like the window seats for the view.

Still, all that movement for a 1 hour flight? I'm amazed.

I hate people who use the seat as a springboard too, but only if I'm sleeping on a 8 hour flight.

I use to be a window seat person. As silly as it may sound, since 9/11, I became an aisle person. I am 6'3", 250lbs. and don't plan on giving up without a fight. Yes, really - that is the reason.

security?
easier to have secret service all in the front where the cockpit + pres is then have 1 detail in the front protecting the cockpit and another in the back protecting the pres

The worst I've seen for someone sitting in an aisle seat - had a delayed flight arriving into a major hub, and one person was anxious to get her bags out of the over-head bins and dart off the plane asap to catch a connecting flight... she got up and pulled her luggage down while the plane was still taxi'ing to the gate. Well, when the plane turned to align with the gate, the bin was open... and a suitcase fell out and hit square on the head of an elderly man sitting in the aisle seat!

I always take a window seat, I like having the wall to lean against. Sometimes the wall is very close and cramped, but still prefer it over an aisle.

I sleep on planes...as soon as that thing gets airborne my brain shuts down and I'm OUT. And for that reason, I'll take a middle seat over an aisle seat. We vacationed recently and my wife thought she was doing me a favor by putting me in the aisle on all three legs of the round trip. After getting whacked in the knee by the food/drink carts about 20 times, I don't want to take any more aisle seat flights. Completely coincidentally I'm sure, she had a window seat on every leg...

If you know you wont be peeing, a window seat is usually the better option.

I almost never need to. Just completed an 8 hour flight and didn't need to use the bathroom once

Window seat all the way, the view is what makes flying exciting. Got to go on a plane a few times paid by the company and it was pretty fun.

I do also enjoy the view. I like looking out and seeing other planes at the airport, the scenery as it goes by and the sunrise

I've never had much luck controlling my limb positions while asleep

Unless your seat has a fuselage rib in the middle of it (seat placed between windows) I find windows have more room. Or at least more room that doesn't involve getting run over or bumped every minute

I solve this problem by flying first class. Makes the trip more enjoyable.

So this is what life is like back in peasant class.

Well when I can fly to Austria for $500 RT around Chrismas/NYE and Amsterdam for $316 RT I have a hard time paying for a nicer class or using miles.

Used to do aisle, but yea such a pita.

Feel the window has more usable area anyway. Can't sleep on my back at all. With window seats I can rest my body/head/leg right up against the wall and be pretty much left alone the whole flight.

Mostly fly Southwest, so window is rarely an issue. Unless I forget to check in... Got A-List for 2017 tho, so no worries. Do try to fly Sun Country first class as much as possible tho, rates usually aren't much more than Southwest standard fares.
