This is seriously an issue.

My friend at work has a bent phone and claims he did nothing but have it in his pockets with it. He has no idea how it happened.

Regardless of your loyalty to a company, if you can bend a phone in your pocket without knowing - that isn't good.

And to top it off - He lost cellular connectivity this morning with the update and had to do a restore through iTunes to fix it.

Not a good start. I am sure you are right, its probably being blown out of proportion, but there are legitimate concerns at the moment.
I don't know if its getting blown out of proportion but I think we need to have objective studies. Failure rates, complaint rates, etc.

I don't work in the complaint department, but as engineers, we understand that you need data to show statistical significance before drawing conclusions.

Anyone wanna go to the apple store and bend some phones?

The guy who did the iPhone 6 Plus bend test did it on the iPhone 6 which proved to be much more robust. He wasn't able to bend it all, all he got was a slight warp. I'm going to swap out for that instead of the Note 4 because as I have stated before I like iOS but I can't say I'm not disappointed.

It is what it is. Badly designed thin aluminum that bends easily. No need to be defensive for Apple, they have plenty of lawyers for that. This is embarrassing especially for Apple and the prices they charge. Seriously they couldn't even bother with a simple test?

As engineers, sometimes you call a turd a turd. No need to analyze the turd. It is what it is.

The new iPhone is so yawn-inducing. Put it beside HTC designs and it is nearly identical. Tim Cook sucks. I can't say that enough. Tim Cook sucks.

I used to be able to quickly identify an iPhone in the public. Now with the iPhone 6, I can no longer tell if the person is holding an iPhone or other android phone.

Really? It's still a pretty obvious design imo, I saw a few last weekend and they caught my eye right away.

Anyways I'm glad the regular 6 seems more robust, I decided to go for that and I've been pretty happy with it so far but got a little worried hearing about this whole bending problem.

If having a case is a necessity you can't really claim its so thin because the case essentially becomes part of the overall thickness.

If you sell 10 million phones and a few thousand people have an issue - not an issue.

Well not everyone of those 10 million has their phone yet and given that its only been a few days it could very much be an issue. If this is only a 6+ issue then you need to remove the 6 users from the equation

Too early to make or dismiss the claim

The new iPhone is so yawn-inducing.

I very much wonder what the sales would have been like if the major carriers hand't been offering the $200-300 buy back credit. Hell on AT&T you can get some iPhones for -$100 to $36 depending on phone. Even if you aren't happy with the specs I think most people would decide thats a good incentive to upgrade

You know, it's kind of an off-topic but I was very surprised to see most Note 3 owners carrying their phones without casing. I thought that phone would surely needs a case. For whatever reason most S4/S5 I've seen in the wild are in cases on the other hand. iPhone 5/5s are of course all encased. 5c are often seen naked.

I don't know how people make decisions when it comes to phone cases.

Notes are huge to start with, put a case on them and they are even bigger. Of course 6+s are even bigger.

I'd never put a phone that big in my front pocket anyway. I can already imagine that thing stabbing me in the thigh and hip while i'm sitting. The plastic phone obviously will not retain the bent shape like the aluminum phone, but the discomfort level is still there, and the thing is still being warped in your pocket, which can't be good for it in the long run. Just one more reason why some people would prefer a non-phablet phone.

I know a lot of people here really like the bigger phones, but you really have to be ready make a few concessions to have one. Even if it technically fits in your front pocket, you should know it's not a fantastic idea to put it there. These reports of bent iphones should go to show you how much stress all phones are constantly under while they're riding in your pocket.

I've never had a bending phone problem with any phone I've ever owned, and I've gone through a lot of them (Note 2, 3, LG G2, G3, OnePlus One, etc.). They all sat in my front pocket just fine.

To me the difference between larger phones and smaller ones is that with the larger phones you are sometimes making a concession (the size may be an issue with certain clothes, or in certain positions), but with a small phone you are always making a concession (tiny screen that is no fun to use for video, apps, web browsing, games).
