Apple announced they will replace bent 6+'s on "mechanical visual inspection"


In the coming weeks, we might see a job listing at apple for a mechanical engineer with experience in stress analysis, like the job listing for RF engineer after the antennagate incident.

I'd probably wait for official word and not some low level support monkey on this before it's confirmed.

I've never had a bending phone problem with any phone I've ever owned, and I've gone through a lot of them (Note 2, 3, LG G2, G3, OnePlus One, etc.). They all sat in my front pocket just fine.

They were probably bending, they just didn't retain the bent shape after you took them out. That's really the point of this thread isn't it? My concern would be that any unexplainable problems I started having with my phone later in it's life would be a result of it constantly bending and flexing in my pocket as I went about my daily business. The guy mentions that the tightness of your pants is probably a big factor as well, so if you tend to wear loose fitting clothing you may have nothing to worry about with any phone anyway.

Just played with both of them at Tmobile.

Would rather have a smaller iphone. The big one finally pushed it too far. Its longer than my Note 2 and I feel thats beyond excessive.

HOWEVER, I am glad they introduced both phones at the exact same time so people can have a choice. I believe thats a first for Apple and its a good move.

Also, the phone is just out, there are going to be more people with bent phones as they weaken the aluminum in their pants. It'll take a while for the floodgates to open.

it's because it's apple, they are a big deal as a company. but the news is just reporting a story.

but i was mostly referring to this thread with my comment, not outside of here, hence the "you must be new here" comment.

it is kind of like how this forum is the majority anti-apple, yet the threads based around apple always have the most replies and are the most active. it's odd (well not really on AT, because that is just how this forum works) that topics about subjects most people dislike seem to get the most attention.

Which isn't any different than the haters jumping and calling this bendgate when there are a few reported cases and not much of any facts to back up the reports. It definitely goes both wa here. And the haters are always foaming at the mouth for anything they can discredit Apple with. A lot of them get a boner when they hear something negative they can come post.

You know, people say this a lot but it's patently not true when there's a thread about how the iPhone 6 will kill high-end Android right beside this one. It seems to be a common goto too and it's repeated as if there's not equal numbers of rabid anti-Android (or anti-Samsung) people.

Because now that we live in a polite society where it's no longer acceptable to lead a war party to pillage and plunder neighboring lands, the only thing that's left is to point out how other people on the internet are WRONG about largely inconsequential matters.

A small price to pay for not having to deal with marauding barbarians burning your fields, killing your friends, and running off with your wife or daughter.

I would have been surprised if in the first week, there really were a large number of reports. But it's pretty clear the phone can deform more than smaller phones and once deformed, will not return to original shape.

I'd be concerned from a long term perspective if repeated moderate, daily stress over 6 months can cause deformation.

My Note 1 had been with me for three years residing in my front pocket or back pocket all the time. It is retired now, but still lay perfectly flat. Like @dawheat says, I wonder how many bent or slightly deformed iPhone 6+ after one year of use.

Now that Apple has said they will replace deformed or bent iPhone 6, does that mean the issue has been acknowledged? I assume Apple will increase rigidity of the chassis in future production, but as of now, there are millions of easily bendable iPhones in the wild.
