People make a fuss because people are posting all over the web about how their new iPhone 6+ is being bent from being placed in the front pocket. Last time I checked no other smartphone does this.

serious question because i've only seen a few - but how many people are you talking about? i've only seen like 3 or 4 people on the internet stating this. and i'm not talking about people who did stupid tests to bend it, i'm talking people who had it bent accidently through every day use.

i have seen 4 different people at most. not saying that is all, but i'm wondering what the actual tally is on people reporting this on the web. all i see is a bunch of sites making claims about people having it happen to them. they could all be reporting the same few people for all we know.

I feel pretty confident I could snap my Galaxy Note 3 in half bare handed if I tried. Doesn't mean I'm worried it'll break in my pocket. This is totally overblown. But entertaining.

I only wish people would cancel their damn pre-orders so I could get my iPhone 6 Plus quicker. Don't think I'll be that lucky.

I've had the 6 Plus in hand since the 19th

I'm not worried about the phone bending but I always use cases & am careful with my gadgets. This phone is tall, I would be more concerned about it falling out of active people's pockets than about the device bending.

This is a nice phone with some compelling features via iOS 8 but for my purposes the Galaxy Note 4 will be the better device. Btw, not having a back button on this phone is driving me slowly crazy

I think people are concerned about phone bending not necessarily within a week of purchase but rather, say, a year from now. But yah most people will have this phone in a casing if my past observation on iPhones will also be the case with the 6/6+. The phone looks quite slippery anyway. It's weird to say but glossy surface (plastic or glass) is less slippery in my experience than textured ones because there is always some moist in my hands. (they gather more finger prints, though)

I have to say I was shocked to see how strong the Note 3's construction is, though. That was not what I expected at all.

I personally prefer "Bendghazi". Apple's 1.0 products always have an major issue one way or another; and the Plus is no exception.

The iP6/iP6+ were not the first iPhones that could be easily bent. When the iP5S came out there were similar issues and I got a little snarky by referring to them as the iBend and the FlexyFiver. So this is nothing new for Apple.

In fairness, most any of the thin phones can be fairly easily bent including the HTC One, though it takes a bunch more force to bend the One given the rounded shape of the aluminum back that increases stiffness by a bunch.

OMFG

Apple literally doesn't care about their customers:

Removed the profanity from the post, and this is the final reminder/warning to everyone in this thread:

Profanity and vulgarity are forbidden in the tech forums. The next instance that I see will be an infraction.

I can't pull it up at work, but I'm guessing that's the screenshotted exchange between the guy and Apple Chat Support?

If so then... if the supervisor's hands were tied, then they were tied. There's no way of being able to determine if the phone was bent by the user deliberately, or if it happened how they said it happened (it was in her purse, and it just magically got bent!). They bought AppleCare+, which covers accidental damage.

If the guy took it in to a store, then the manager there could make the call whether to replace it outright or not, and that's what the guy should do next. But the fact that some tech support supervisor didn't replace the guy's phone outright isn't sufficient to make a blanket statement about any company's concern for its customers.

All that said, the guy did the right thing by documenting the exchange, and should Apple decide in the future to offer a free replacement program for iPhones 6, then he should get his money back on the warranty exchange.

Anyone think Apple will "somehow" reinforce the chassis strong enough without adding bulk? This level of build quality is simply not acceptable. There will be tons of bent iPhones months from now. Even if people don't purposely bend it, iPhone chassis will no doubt warp and bend over time.

Saw one today in the hands of a young student. He seemed happy with it. No damage.
I didnt ask about the bending cuz he's probably heard it all by now.

Yes, just like they eventually released a bumper for the iphone 4. But it wont happen overnight.

Not for the iPhone 6+. They may tweak the design for the 6s+.

They'll do the usual of ignoring the issue, blaming the user, giving the press lots of individual feel good exclusives...

And by then it'll be time to buy the next iPhone.

Here's a video of two kids destroying an iphone 6+ by bending it. "Bodybuilder can't bend this phone" my butt:

That's a pretty shitty thing to do and I hope that they get charged for the cost of replacing that phone.

If your phone bends though normal use (and, yes, putting your phone in your pocket is normal use) then Apple should fix the issue.
If you bend your phone on purpose then that's up to you, but you can't expect anyone else to fix that.
If you bend someone else's phone on purpose then you should be liable to fix it.

(your mirror sucks BTW)

Consumer reports says you are wrong: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2014/09/consumer-reports-tests-iphone-6-bendgate/index.htm

HTC one performed the worst.

Its pretty weird how closely some apple haters follow the company. It has to be some sort of undiagnosed mental issue. Sad. I hope they get the help they need.

the trend also seems to be that the people who care most about the bendgate problem are those who are anti-apple anyways and wouldn't have gotten an apple product regardless.

Consumer reports used the wrong type of bend test, they used a 3 point bend test which really stresses only one very narrow area of the phone. A 4 point bend test does a better job revealing structural weaknesses along a much larger area of the phone.

Well given that we are constantly told how well designed iPhones are and how much better made they are than our lowly handsets you can't blame us for being interested in Apple's obviously superior construction techniques.

Yep, a random dude with a huge agenda is more reliable than an independent testing company. Have you ever seen a doctor about your issues? It might be worth a visit.
