anderson windows or pella?

pella can be found at lowes... on top of that i can get 10pct off with coupons.. anderson... beats me...

are anderson worth the extra general premium?

i'm leaning on not... and so i could problably save 1k on a set of windows....


but i'm not the sole decision maker, so i got some persuading to do... but i would like to know if indeed anderson is worth the general premium that it seems to command.

I just dropped $8,000 on windows, but I went vinyl, triple pain with argon in between. Anderson's would have cost me about $16,000, but I have two huge picture windows on the front of my house that are going to be replaced with side-by-side sliders which will swing in to clean.... Nifty.

Just bought a new Pella sliding door system, to be installed the 27th of this month.
We looked at Anderson and then Pella, what a difference!!! The Pella is a much better product, although not cheap, $3800 but worth every penny.

Pella > anderson.

Anderson windows are like bose speakers. There is no true benefit. You're buying a name.

unless you are living in the house you'll never move away from, neither are worth the cost. modern mid-range windows are just fine and if you plan on selling the house before your mortgage is paid, then don't sweat it.

My parents have had Pella windows installed in both of the two houses that they had built. I am not familar with Anderson windows but Pella windows are very nice. All aluminum on the outside and wood on the inside to be stained whatever color you want. Also the triple pane is very nice. Also, they have never had a problem with them over the course of both houses. The windows are just as nice as the day they were put in, which was about 10 years ago.

shopping for windows seems so tricky... so many makers... not everyone sells to your area... only the big ones like anderson pella are the most national in coverage...

It really depends on your location... I live up here in Mid-Michigan and if you go with cheap windows you will be sorry during the winter. I would have to say that Pella is a better window, do not go with the argon inbetween it is just a gimmick not worth the money. Remember a window is only as good as the installation so make sure someone who knows what their doing and get references...

Who is installing these things? Ask the installers who they usually use. You could get window inserts dirt cheap, and slap 'em in quickly. What's wrong with the ones you have? Pics? Would some simple storm windows make them worth keeping?

About 80% of your heat loss is through your ceiling and roof. That only leaves 20% loss through walls, doors, and windows. How much do you spend per year for fuel. These windows will probably only save a fraction of that 20% of loss. Face it, they'll never pay for themselves unless you can buy and install them for about $50.00 each, and that will be over the course of a few decades!

This sounds like a century home. It's probably got 4" trim and decorative drip caps. Do you intend to preserve this?

We used a company called All American Window & Door (in Wisconsin). They use Great Lakes Windows. Same quality and R value as the others. We spend about 7 grand doing our whole house. triple pane in the back bedrooms, double in the rest. Works great. If you are in the area and call them, ask for Ben.

ornery - not quite century, but almost there heh... the previous people should have already changed them 10 years ago, and rehauled the kitchen, but oh no...

no i'm not going to preserve anything.... i want it to be renovated to a modern floor, hardwood floors and all, recessed lights.

New doesn't mean it can't look authentic. They had hardwood floors way back when, too!

Anyway, the installer can work with you on fiding something useable for a decent price. Tell him what your concerns are, and see how much difference the price will be to address them.

hi, i pretty much went with this, the contractor heard of them, it's about 2k for all the windows, 4 of which will be part stuck together to make 1 big window for the house front.
