Looks like an employee was holding the new Nexus phone at the event. Reported Engadget and Verge.

i used to work for symantec 6-7 years ago and in the norton group at least the part i worked in we used to name all our builds after starships .

so it was a while back i remember i worked on defiant, and serenity. lots of companies do it. just android is so big the code names get known outside. intel names all their chips after rivers or whatever.

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought Key Lime Pie was a stupid name. Kitkat is way better.

A bit disappointed this is 4.4 and not 5.0 though. I guess my Gnex is sticking it out for another year.

I've given up on Google's numbering system. It has no rhyme or reason to it and they seem to change the name when they see fit. 4.0 was ICS, but the JB name stuck for 4.1-4.3... Now it's a name change again but it's only 4.4.

Intel is a "legal paranoid" when it comes to codenames. So code names all have to go through legal approval. So that's why you get a bunch of mountains, cities, rivers and even bridges now. We even had code name changes when they found out that some political group shared the same name.

Minor updates don't get name changes, 2.0 and 2.1 were both Eclair

No, I did as well. They did a good job on this one, haha.

Kind of embarrassing that I couldn't remember the month, but hey, it was morning and I hadn't fully woken up yet...

Regardless of whether "money changed hands" I find it interesting that we get advertised pretty much everywhere. Wasn't really commenting on this being a problem more about the fact that everywhere we turn there's a product ad in our face. Subtle or not.

Cracked up when I saw a comment saying something along the lines of "should have expected Android to name itself after a candy that you fragment"

On that note taking a big bite out of an unfragmented kitkat bar is wonderful.
