Any chance it will be available for immediate download on their website for 6p/5x and maybe even for 6 right away for unlocked device? In the past how long did it take before the image/rom appeared?

Thumbs up for a post that didn't answer the question?

The whole 8/5 is from Evan Blass, who claims that N FINAL will drop this week. Whether that means factory images going up, or just source code getting synced, I don't know.

I don't really see what a link to an xda-modified version of the final developer preview has to do with the actual question.

Well it didnt exactly answer my question but if you read the page it tells you that is close, 8/5 might be real. But yeah, I would like to know if I can download it from Android developers site on 8/5

I think the lgv20 is the first one to be released with it.

That is correct and that will be in Sept, but that does not mean that image will not be available earlier on Android developers site.

It was known to be close because it was the final developer preview. That's no revelation.

August 5th seems early. The other Preview releases have run for at least a month, and I figure they will want to soak DP5 pretty thoroughly.

If you're on a 6/5X/6P, you can load DP5 via OTA now: https://www.google.com/android/beta

I use it as my primary load on the 6P and it is fine. I'm also assuming that devices in the beta program will get the final load OTA before others.

To answer your other question, factory images for Nexus devices usually drop on day 1. The OTA takes longer, but it usually ends up on XDA within the first week if you're like me and tend to get OTAs late.

Seems like 8/22 is the date now... Will we see an ota (non-beta) on Android site on Monday?

Amazing it didn't come with a Nexus. Shows that

1. this is a minor update

2. the Nexus program is really changing this year

Have you seen the bottom of the Nougat page? It says introducing the LG V20, "The first new smartphone that comes with Android Nougat, right out of the box. Coming soon."

What happened to the HTC Nexus phones?

For those who have updated their 6P to N, can you please comment on battery life, and performance? I'm curious on updating mine, but I'm also leaving for a three week vacation (and will have limited connectivity to data).

Performance seems about the same, maybe a little quicker. I think some animations might be quicker, and the doubletap task switching is super fast, but it doesn't feel like a huge performance upgrade to me. Certainly not slower, though.

Can't really comment on battery life, haven't been away from a charger for more than a couple hours since the update.

For me, on 6, better life was same, but it was certainly faster, better performance.

I'm on N beta

Looking at the feature highlights here

https://www.android.com/versions/nougat-7-0/ (scroll to the bottom)

It seems obvious that we need OEMs do their thing if Android is to keep advancing. Most of the new features are what OEMs have incorporated in their builds of Android for quite some time. It is why I think those who yearn for "stock Android" for OEM's flagship phones are mistaken. Without the OEMs pushing the boundaries Android would not be where it is today.

Updates are a different story, though.
