I have T-Mobile and they just released Lollipop as a new System Update. Other companies already have the update. How do you guys like the new update. I have a LG G3 phone. Is there any new features with the new update? Or what is this update bringing the android community?

The huge change with Lollipop is under the hood. Apps must now be precompiled, instead of complied on the fly. That was done back in the day when RAM was precious. Otherwise, the pretty stuff (Material Design) is really make-up and not deserving of a new version #. Android can easily update it's apps regardless of OS to meet MaD standards.

Regardless my favorite change is the flashlight and faster trusted face unlock.

The main thing is the new Run Time which does, at least to me, make app performance noticeably more smoother. for instance when I am scrolling rapidly through apps the slight hitching has been made a lot less noticeable where as it was fairly noticeable before.

There is a draw back and that is if you used an app to toggle mobile data without going into the settings that ability goes away with lollipop. More pluses than minuses over all though.

The new update is amazing. Read a lot of bad reviews about having your battery die faster. Hasnt happend to me yet, and i generally play games and use a lot if apps.

My Note 4 battery took a dump after Lollipop. I had to factory reset it to get it back to normal. Turned out to be a few apps that were fine on KK but were not supported under lollipop. Those apps do not appear in the app store anymore.

I've been trying to google my issue with Lollipop but to no avail:

I use a Sony Z3, and after the OTA push to Lollipop, multitasking has taken a kind of nosedive. I used to be able to stream youtube (radioyoutube app) videos for the audio, in the background, while I'm sending out e-mails, surfing the web, whatever. Now, as soon as I do this, the minimized app (radioyoutube) starts stuttering, and the audio becomes terrible, and the app crashes.

I've googled 'stuttering on lollipop' and there are some threads about needing to clear out the cache, but so far the update doesn't seem so positive to me. Maybe it's what you say - that the apps I'm using aren't supported under lollipop, but if so that's a shame.

I installed CMOS12 on a device with only two days of usage on CM11S so it was basically a new/clean install. My phone is perfect, no jankiness and no battery issues. I liked Holo a lot and am just getting used to Material but so far so good.

Here is my likes so far in Lollipop:

  1. Trusted Devices, can set my lock screen to password /w crazy advanced password that I never have to type if I am paired to my moto 360. Can also set it for any bluetooth or NFC device.
  2. Material Design - While I am not a huge fan of all white, I do admit it just... flows together very nicely.
  3. Notifications on the lock screen... finally!
  4. Art.. much better than Dalvik was.

Question, girlfriend has the International Unlocked version (N910C) Note 4, and is using it on T-Mobile. Who (if anyone) provides the Android updates for her phone? Will she be able to get the updates from T-Mobile? OTA?

Installed it on my LG G2 ... everything sucked, and my battery life was cut in half.

Did a factory reset... everything is wonderful again.

I highly recommend the factory reset after any major android update.

I believe Kies would update properly.

Installed last night on my S4
Prior to installing I did factory reset on 4.4.2. Then did update. After update, did factory reset to of Lollipop.

Still poking around and installing apps, but so far so good. Will wait a week or so of regular use prior to assessment.

Very thorough, I'm sure you'll have excellent results (provided Samsung did a good job on the code).

The factory default is pretty important. On my GS4, it's about par from before so I'm pretty happy about it.

I don't know what that means. Is that something I would have to manually do?

Samsung Kies is software provided by samsung. It installs on a PC or mac and has updaters (if available) for samsung devices. Its sorta like itunes without the app store or unnecessary confusion. You can back up and restore your device as well.

Nice that sounds useful. Can it take a full image of the entire hard drive of the phone, similar to using something like AcronisTrue image on a PC?

I'm considering switching from Nexus 5 to LG G2.

On the LG G2, how do you perform a factory reset?

Battery life has been outstanding so far on Lollipop compared to what I had dealt with under 4.4.2 on my S4. Battery life has doubled.

However, this is the first upgrade I've done where I did the factory reset first, then upgrade on the clean install (no apps installed and app back up turned off). I then manually reinstalled my apps from playstore.

You have made a very wise decision. Very few in-place upgrades for any OS work without issues.

Not sure why the majority of the people have had battery issues with this new update. Once my update finished installing I automatically restarted my phone. I have not had any battery issues even before the update on my LG G3.

this post is a lie

everything is not wonderful. Battery life is still shit, most everything that changed with this update was for the worse.

I have a question - Can you revert 5.0 back to kitkat? This phone was so perfect on Kitkat, now its on Lollipop and its garbage. The one or two links I looked at seem to show a rather daunting process to revert an LG G2 back to Kitkat. Dunno if anyone's tried that or even thought of it yet.

I went from a 9-12 hour battery life under kitkat to 24+ hours under Lollipop.
So far, battery life under Lollipop on my now 2 year old phone (and battery) exceeds the battery life of when I first got the phone 2 years ago with a clean install of Jelly Bean (4.2).

As for your phone...
Prior to trying to revert back to Kitkat, try clearing cache partition on your phone (http://www.mobiany.com/how-to-wipe-the-cache-partition-on-lg-g2.html).

If that doesn't work, turn off back and restore apps and then factory reset the phone. Reinstall your apps manually from the playstore.
