NERD!

The company I work for is looking to get into payment processing. Was hoping I could pick your brain.

I worked for a Credit Card and ACH clearing house for many years. It isn't necessarily easy to get into. Theres many different hurdles you have to cross to do just one of them correctly. If you don't have high volume and reasonable funding policy set you can get eaten up by bottom feaders.

Another key item is PCI Compliance. It's a bear to deal with. There really isn't a well established way to get servers that will pass PCI Compliance.

I'd recommend being well funded, and having connections at a bank that is willing to process for you.

It's really the same as the previous mobile NFC wallets with a couple big advancements :

- instead of having a special bank app for each card, Apple has gotten most major banks to agree to let their cards be in Apple's wallet
- the payment networks, with Apple, have created scalable systems so every bank doesn't have to do it themselves. The upside is others can use the same systems
- Apple and Touch ID has substantially improved the user experience
But I thought Google Wallet actually uses a one time generated CC #. Isn't that different than the EMV tokenization that Apple Pay uses?

So in the end when you pay with Google Wallet, it all goes through as a Mastercard transaction, whereas Apple Pay directly links to your bank, allowing you to get all your CC rewards.

IIRC, Google Pay acts as a middle man issuer. They create a Google Visa/MC number that is stored on device. The payment path is Merchant->Payment Network->Google->Card Conversion->Payment Network->Actual Issuer. In contrast Apple Pay is Merchant->Payment Network->Actual Issuer.

That is correct, I'm fully aware of that portion Google uses, I believe Bancorp, to process the payments to the 2nd payment network. They must have a good deal /w Banccorp and the networks to not have to pay double issuer fees.

Either way, my point stands, he should had just disputed up front /w the issuer. Which based on my chargeback knowledge I have to wonder how that works... I know the issuer just chargesback the transaction which is technically google, so does Google then just relay the chargeback to the 1st payment network? What a PITA.... Each network has different chargeback codes and requirements etc...

I use and like Google Wallet, but I do think they need to streamline the process.

You still get all your normal rewards /w Google Wallet too. They transfer over the MCC to post it the same way to your card and the MCC is what qualifies your for your bonus categories etc.
