Hi,

I am entertaining the idea of switching from apple phone to an android and am curious if there is any all inclusive email client which I could use on mobile device which could replace the following.

Currently I use a mobile usb stick with Mozilla Thunderbird which handles all my email accounts and has alias's/identities setup so I can easily send from whichever account I want by selecting it in the "From" field of emails.

I would love to have the same functionality to differentiate between personal and work email accounts on a mobile device, does anyone currently do this with any android device or know if its possible? I would like to use the mobile device to eliminate the use of carrying around the usb stick and having to maintain access to PC to plug it into the check email....

First of all, if all you need is a mail client that supports multiple accounts, what's wrong with Mail on your iPhone? It supports multiple accounts from all kinds of different types of mail servers.

Secondly, any Android mail client should support multiple accounts. Even now the GMail client also supports IMAP so you could easily use that as well. It's really simple to switch between accounts and I believe it's even smart enough to have a unified inbox where if you hit reply it would just reply from whichever account it came from.

Really!?! Actually I have never tried using my Iphone to setup multiple accounts which is partly reason for my question as it a corporate phone and so far is only used for work e-mail...

If it works this way by smartly always replying from the account the email came from without me having to select it that would be super, do you know whether if it works the same with composing a new email where it lets you select which account to compose it from out of a list of accounts available as well? or would it just always send mail from default account........

My Dad has two email accounts he uses from his iPhone and has sent me emails from both. I have two on my Galaxy and switching between the two is also not a problem.

Note that I'm now talking about the GMail app on Android. There is no 'default' account as in traditional desktop mail client. If you fired it up, you can create and switch 'profile' between multiple accounts, which is where you'll access the emails in these account (think of it like multiple tabs. one tab for each account). There's also a 'unified inbox' (which is called 'all inboxes' or something like that) where it will show you emails from all of your 'profiles'. Clicking an individual email lets you interact (read/reply/forward/etc.) with that email from the appropriate profile it came from.

Do you know whether this functionality is available natively on iphone or android via some mail client? i am assuming that what you speak of is only for gmail accounts and what I would be utilizing is not only gmail but also privately owned domain email accounts and work email as well......

I can't speak for the iPhone, as I haven't used one since the 4S, but it works fine for my note 4. I have email for my isp, yahoo, and gmail, all using the default email client. Even when I had an iPhone, I was using 2 accounts. I'd be shocked if it can't meet your needs.

iPhone, yes, with the native Mail client. It's not identical with what I explained, but similar functionality.

On Android, there are at least half a dozen good mail clients also with similar functionality.

And yes, I was talking about the 'GMail client', but as I have explained in my first post, this client now supports IMAP/POP accounts as well, not just GMail accounts (probably not Exchange though).

I use K9 on Android with a few accounts. I wouldn't consider anything else.

I would, but only because I'm vain and find K9 to be hideously ugly. I have never heard a bad thing about its functionality, though. So, I will give it credit where it's due.

Maildroid is a little costly for the Pro version, but it functions fantastically. I used the free version for a bit to sync work emails.

CloudMagic is pretty good, but I think they're a subscription service. I've not tried SolMail, and Mailbox is only gmail and iCloud. There's also Boxer, but I think it gets expensive to buy all the features, but it functions and looks great. Tried adding my school to that one, but the school has really severe restrictions.

I have my gmail and yahoo attached to my gmail app and it does fine. Haven't tried the new outlook yet.

Also, OP, read the thread more carefully. You're making people repeat themselves.

Anyone know if I were to say.... forward all emails to one central account if there is availability of a feature which will look at the "originating" email address the message was sent from and use that in facilitating replies of the message? rather then grabing the forwarded address as the mailto: ?

That's a strange, and unorthodox request. What would you do when someone forwards a mail to you, and you want to reply to them? I'd use a mail client, and leave the mail where it belongs.

I was thinking it would make it easier to have a unified inbox for all accounts if I forwarded all emails from other accounts to one specific account then only setup that account on my device.

But then I would want to keep the capability to reply from the original account instead of the one it was forwarded too......

Setting up multiple accounts in a client is trivially easy, and you can view all accounts in a unified inbox.
