Android sales up infinity percent since Q2 2008!

I'm impressed with the rate at which Android has grown in the last year, for sure. But in mid-2009, what could you even get? The G1 on T-Mobile and... anything else? Sprint didn't have an Android phone until October '09 and Verizon didn't have one until November. So it's really been less than a year since Android really took off.

Yep, it'll be interesting to see how much it grows, there's lots of room in the sector...

I think Android 3.0 has a lot of potential, and will likely make the OS more consumer friendly...

A native music player that didn't suck would go a long way.

And I think Android tablets will sell like crazy, the first one to market with a capacitive screen under $300 is going to be a blowout...

I totally agree.
They need to pretty up Android.
Simple things as better looking icons and widgets would be a start.
I mean the widget for the music player is a black bar.

I didn't say it was perfect, just pretty.

I don't understand, all I hear from certain members of this board is how desperate Android is, their phones aren't selling and they're destined for failure because it's too difficult to operate.

The OS looks fine. If you use a custom launcher use some nice apps, the widgets that come out are fine.

They really need to just polish the OS a bit. Choppy home screen? LOL. Almost every user I know jumped to ADW or Launcher Pro. You shouldn't have to do that for a good phone. HTC really makes the Desire and Incredible a lot smoother than the raw Nexus One. And to go back to a Stock Droid? That's an insult. I wonder how Apple made its 3GS or even the older iPhones work just fine on the homescreen. They really just need to make the OS more user friendly and not just for enthusiasts.

Then the apps need to come on to level with the iPhone's. We really need a Facebook app that's better than the iPhone's was when the App store first debuted. This is just getting sad. You can tell developers that do cross platform have like an 80/20 split or something. Like 80% of their resources goes into making the iPhone app and to improve it. The Android resource is to just get a half-assed port. Shame on developers for slacking!

Played with a Droid X today at the Verizon Store - all performance/smoothness issues = completely gone.

They could ship a billion phones running Android and it wouldn't help Googles bottom line one bit. That is the funny part about all of this.

Use of Google apps, and people buying apps in the marketplace does help their bottom line though.

Oh yeah. I know. Blur really involves some customization of the OS and it makes the phone a lot more usable straight out of the box. That's what was what the OS needed. Either Sense or Blur or Touchwiz. The Nexus One and Droid showed that raw Android itself was not ready for general use.

It seems like Google delivers a 90% complete product and then relies on the manufacturers to get to that 100%. Kinda annoying.

I don't think Blur is used on the Droid X. Maybe, they integrated some Blur stuff into it. The only difference I could tell immediately was the home screen has the dots on the bottom which you can use to quickly jump to different panels.

Meh, I dislike all of those (Blur, Sense, TouchWiz) and started on a Droid as my first Android device and haven't had an issue getting things running etc. I actually wish there were more phones running stock Android. However I'm probably in the minority.

I do want them to fix the smoothness/widgets redrawing issues that seem to happen sometimes but other than that I don't have many complaints.

Also can someone explain to me what is so "bad" about the music player? It plays my mp3's has skip seek and pause.. what makes it so terrible? I mean my music sounds fine and the controls are easy to use. Is it things like smart playlists or some other features that I don't use?

Correct, the X does not have motoblur. Some things are similiar.
