Amazing growth for Android. Kinda blows the whole too hard to use for the average consumer myth out of the water.
Well considering this is a myth held by a certain subset of Apple loyalists it's really not that surprising.

As hot a seller as Google Android phones are right now, its user base isn’t the most satisfied with their device. When surveying current Android device owners, Nielson found that 71 percent would buy an Android phone again. That sounds like a high loyalty rating, but it falls noticeably short when asking iPhone owners about their next handset — 89 percent are happy with iOS4 and plan to buy a future Apple handset.
Are people buying them because they are Android phone or because that's what was pushed on them by the carrier because of deals/BOGOs?
This supports that it's not Android they are explicitly purchasing:

Plus the figures do not include the iPhone 4.
pathetic attempt.
I think this is what he is trying to say:
The direct impact of android onto google's bottom line is nil.
The indirect impact of android on google's bottom line is HUGE.
Pathetic rebuttal which only reinforces my assertion.
pathetic attempt.

Techcrunch says so.
What source do you have that refutes the fact that iphone 4 sales aren't included in these #'s?
pathetic attempt.
Your own link?
Did you even read the article, or just misread the headline?
Where did I state otherwise?

I am agreeing with you. lol
The phrase 'pathetic attempt' would indicate that you dont find the fact that iPhone 4 sales aren't included in that data as a non-issue. It most definitely is not.
And if you want to compare operating systems, then actually compare operating systems. Android has many different phones with many different variations. iPhone is just 1 phone stuck on 1 carrier. Why dont we just include all units that use iOS as a comparison then?
Come on Dwell...we started off this thread by complimenting iOS. I'm sure you can come up with one positive thing to say about Android sales being up that much.

So they had 1 week of sales. Isn't the time where they sold the most Iphones and the sales sloping off after that? What was it 1.3 million in that 1st week and 3.2million for the whole month?According to this data, new Android subscribers passed iPhone subscribers in the second quarter, which ended on June 30. The new iPhone 4 was announced on June 7, but not available until June 24th.
In other words, this data only includes one week of iPhone 4 sales.

Considering 160000+ Android activations/day, the trajectory isn't changing much.
That is what I was trying to say.
The indirect impact of android on google's bottom line could be huge.
What people here are assuming is that the increase in mobile advertising wouldn't have come about if Google hadn't entered the smart phone market. That is not the case.
But you also have to look at the fact that not every phone necessarily makes Google money.
No. sales havent dropped off. According to apple, they are selling every single iphone 4 they make.
Are people buying them because they are Android phone or because that's what was pushed on them by the carrier because of deals/BOGOs?

IMO Android has a much more sustainable busness model in the long term. It's already rocketing toward Apple. It will become more interesting if/when Apple offers devices on multiple carries, but it was Apples brain-dead decision to lock into ATT for an eternity.
It's a valid point, but if Google wanted to make money off Android directly they probably wouldn't have open sourced it and gave it away now would they?
Google just wanted to ensure that there was a competitive platform that would guarantee consumers access to their services. Apple can't be trusted with this because they love closed systems. Microsoft was obviously falling behind. Palm was too small to compete. Android was Googles only move to secure the mobile sector.
Are you high?
The Google business model depends on people using Google services which is no guarantee after the sale.
