It might end up being a good movie, I don't know, but it sure isn't necessary! The original is a classic. The way Hollywood is going, they'll soon remake Casablanca and the African Queen too.:frown:

Looks like they drifted way too far from the book for my taste. But then, I guess they gotta sell it somehow, and the book ain't exactly fast paced.

The book people probably aren't interested in a televised version, and the mini-series folks don't plan to consult the text any time soon.

The Andromeda Strain is a great movie. It is sad that Hollywood lacks the talent and creativity these days to make new films rather than remaking everything from the days of my youth. They will ruin it with the CGG and crappy actors.

Almost anything would be better than the original movie. It was dull, didn't pack any of the pacing or drama of the book. Ultimately though, it's probably going to be ruined by the ended. Crichton writes terrible, wimpy, cop-out endings for everything he does.

I have no problem if they strayed far from the book. I will judge the movie on its own.

Of course, sci-fi mini-series will be judged against a pretty good crop:

In fact, sci-fi mini-series have produced some great television.

I just finished watching both parts. It was mildly entertaining. I give it an 8/10 as a mini-series. Which translates to about a 4/10 as a movie.

ALL of them arnt cop-outs but a good number are

Meh, pretty much his only book to movie rewrite that didn't stray too far from the book is Sphere. Other than that, they all suck considerably compared to the books - especially Congo & the Jurassic Park series.
