Well at least she immortalized her fantastic pair in past movies! Seems a bit extreme, but I am not going to question someone who has a family history and high likelihood of developing cancer.

All good all good, but where do all these boobies go after they get removed? What happens to them? All the questions..

What a dumbass. The things people will do to stave off perceived death.

Why not save yourself the trouble of going through cancer? It's a fucking bitch man. She saved herself and her family the grief of going through a horrendous disease. Props to her. Also we have plenty of images of her boobs we can google in an instant if we so desire.

At first I thought she was just going crazy.

But then I read her mom died of cancer, and that her doctors told her she had like an 85% chance of getting breast cancer.

Seems like a smart move with those odds.

when I was a surgical tech, it was semi-common for us to do double mast, implants and a full hysterectomy because of aging females fearing cancer

I think something like 1/3 women over 60 has had a hysterectomy. I almost couldn't believe it when I read that.

Just read the article: nytimes.com

The article said she had an 87% chance of getting breast cancer. She just did the breasts and not the ovaries (yet). She went through multiple surgeries to save the nipple and got implants. Apparently she just has a few scars and it looks like she got a boob job, but that's it.

Sounds like a logical choice to me.

She used to self-injure. She hasn't always together "upstairs". I bet there's more to this than a misguided preventative. These days you can get a flesh eating infection just from having surgery. Look what happened to Reggie Williams.

Dear God...I just read that...his knee...sweet baby Jesus. Why not just amputate???

Five inch geysers of blood randomly shoot out, and you can touch his femur in certain spots...wtf?!

Let's close hospitals then huh?

Why die at 80 when you can die at 40!

This. There's a solution to our social security/medicare woes right there. Although a few probably should remain to keep the job creators in good health, being the captains of industry responsible for creating all the wealth and prosperity and all in the country.

Can't women just get mamograms twice a year instead of double mastectomy?

"Hey, look. That cancer that we told you that you had an 87% chance of getting? Well, now you've got that cancer. You're probably going to die."
Or do you think that curing cancer is trivial once it's found? Certain types are more easily treatable than others.

Yes the BRCA Mutation causes:

Hereditary breast–ovarian cancer syndrome, people with her Mutation have a 5 times increase risk of breast cancer and a 10 to 30 times greater risk of ovarian cancer.

I wouldn't be surprised if she also had her ovaries and fallopian tube removed as well. With this mutation she at very high risk for not only breast cancer, but ovarian and fallopian cancer as well.

Can it cause complications with having kids, or does pregnancy increase chance of ovarian cancer? Either case would explain why she and brad been adopting from around the world :hmm:

It is sad that she could actually be trying to do something for the good of the whole, but it is hard to see what that is due to her self-absorbed, narcissistic past. Part of me is reminded that she loves the whole attention-whore and "look-at-me, woe-is-me" thing.

Is she setting up foundations to help other women pay for this non-insurance covered genetic testing? Is she lobbying to get current insurance coverages changed to include this genetic testing?

All I've seen her doing is saying that she's wealthy and has the economic means to get some expensive genetic testing done. She found out she was pre-disposed with a high-percentage change of contracting breast cancer. She chooses a double-mastectomy and, voila, she's newsworthy? I work with two women who also had the same genetic testing performed and ended up with double-mastectomies...they didn't go on the news to spout about it or queue up press-release parties, etc. I can also guarantee the hit to these women financially was much much harder than it is to Angelina.
