As Ernie Pyle wrote in WWII, "There are no atheists in foxholes."

Then again, James Morrow may have had it right when he wrote, "'There are no atheists in foxholes' isn?t an argument against atheism, it?s an argument against foxholes."

What kind of God would allow all the serial murderers and pedophiles walk free and allow them to harm more of "his children"?

What kind of God would have allowed the Holocaust or the kind of crap going on in Darfur today?

No God of mine...

Everyone dies. Sorry it happened to your family members. Why blame the evils of man, who has free will, on God? If God did everything and did not allow bad things to happen and life is perfect...then we would already be in heaven. Did you expect your Godmother and Grandmother to live for ever? Please.

Since it cannot be logically proven that a god/s does or does not exist, why would I hate something I have no logical reason to believe exists?

How could God ask Abraham to kill his own son?

How could God have put poor Job through so many trials?

Testing faith is what people say about those things, that's God testing your faith.

Personally, I think it's all a load of hooey, but if you're going to buy into the God fairy tale, you should know that when things like that happen, he's just "testing their faith."

advice for all you people posting from either side of the fence, don't waste your breath or your keyboard taps trying to convince each other that your belief is the right one. it's futile.

Leona Helmsley lived to be 87. Tes Kaczynski is 66. Charles Manson is 73. My Godmother who practically ran a daycare because she loved children so much didn't see 60. You can keep your God.

this is going to sound cliché, but it's an attitude i've adopted some 6 years since i had a parent die, (and I credit Forrest Gump's mama), "Dying is just a part of living".
sooner or later we all have to accept dying, cruel as it is, unfair as it is.

and fwiw, i don't think God is the one who is behind the evils of the world.

But wait...

This is what I never understood. If the god you believe in created everything, and in the beginning there was nothing but him, then logically this god not only HAD to have created evil, he has to be letting it continue to happen.

Unless, of course, your god is not omnipotent and did not create everything.

I'd like to think, if she was a good person, that she is in a better place now. Of course that is all predicated on whether or not you believe in a God and an after life. I don't really consider the people you listed lived a great life during their final years...and don't think they will enjoy what comes after.
