Seriously though religion threads on the net are so dumb, 99.9999~% of the time all you got is people thinking they know what they are talking about shouting at each other. It?s half comedy half pitiful.
Your contribution was of considerable value.

Another thought on why bad things can even happen:

1) People say, "God is watching over us."
2) There is also supposedly a guardian angel for each person.
3) It's also said, "Such-and-such-dead-relative is up there, watching over us."

So that's at least three separate entities "watching over" everyone. Do they all go on break at the same time? What's the point of saying they're "watching over us" if they can't do anything useful?

The fact is that God does order the mass killings of nonbelievers in the OT and for anyone to dare me to post where this is ordered opened the door. I agree that there is no debating the issue.

What proof do you have that God ordered these things and that they were not just the ideas of man ? All you have is text written by men. What is and is not true is very hard to separate. You have to look at it overall and decide if that fits with your belief of what God is .

Just like if a newspaper publishes something that one of the presidential candidates supposedly told them. It is all second hand text.

The bible as a whole is a very difficult book to understand. It has had many editors and many times those editors shaped its content.

Don't fall into the trap that, the bible says it so it must be true. Consider the source. And the source is not God. It is man.

Nice try on your attempt to steer the conversation away from what you said earlier.

In the majority of religions they do not promote the things you list. I'm still waiting for people to post text from the bible , Koran, Torah, that say to do mass killing.

You specifically asked for someone to post where it said that God ordered mass killings in the bible and I obliged. No where was this conversation about my or your particular beliefs if every word in the Bible is God's inspired word. Nice try in avoiding to admitting you were wrong on this one.

Damn that's awful. But, if you think about it, dying is supposed to be the coolest thing that can happen to someone who is in God's favor right? I can't imagine a 5 year old girl has racked up enough sin to put her on God's black list. So, even if I were a christian and I "really" believed in God I still wouldn't be mad at him for bringing his child home. If her parents are "real" believers then they're happy their daughter is with the old man in the sky and are anxious to go join her, an occurrence that will be met with much great joy by the "real" believers among their close friends and relatives. I always wonder why I never see christians cheering at funerals. Seems like the logical thing to do considering their beliefs. Just something I think about every now and then...

You seem to have a rather skewed perspective of believers and Christians in particular. What does logic have to do with belief in God?

the crux of the biscuit.

I read your previous responses and I am going to try to explain why your argument doesn't fly with most people. The challenge was:

I'm still waiting for people to post text from the bible , Koran, Torah, that say to do mass killing.

I satisfied two of them by showing that God did indeed order the mass killings of people many times in the OT. (The OT is both the Bible and the Tora for those unfamiliar with Jewish/Christian religious text.) Now you are trying to invalidate my answer with religious dogma which has nothing to do with the challenge or the answer to that challenge. The conversation was not about what the stories of God ordering the slaughter of non-Jews really meant. You are trying to steer the conversation into a debate on dogma, when that was not what it was about in the first place.

(I personally believe these stories are mythology mixed with religious context and some real history to present a religious message to not associate with pagan practices. I don't believe a literal Joshua slaughtered an entire town's inhabitants by order of God. I do believe the story is mythology added on top of a real event where a foreign army sieged Jericho and conquered it. This type of warfare was quite common in the Middle East at that time.)

karma can explain it all. What goes around comes around. Sins have to be balanced its the natural order of things someone has to pay and if your checks bounce you pay in your next rebirth. You can ease the guilt of a wrong deed but you wont wash it off.

You cannot have what u dont deserve and you cant have what you deserve before until you are worthy of it.

God isn't going to stop something happening. If he stops one thing, he has to stop everything because he is a God of justice.
The time when everything is going to be stopped is when Jesus comes down to Earth

There - said it
Maybe now, you guys will understand why God doesn't stop horrific / mild deaths
