Spungo, the owner(s) of those factories are only looking at the bottom line. The animals, like the Earth, are just a means to make money. They probably don't even look at the animals as having any value. To them, it's just another worthless thing - like the trees, oceans, etc. The only thing in life is to exploit something for profit.
