Once my mother told me a story about a mink farm that was near where she grew up. One night a bunch of animal rights idiots broke into the place and set upwards of 300 mink free. Mink that had never been outside of their cages and had no idea how to feed or take care of themselves. The school district canceled school for several days (to prevent little kids from attempting to pet the animals) and recruited high school aged kids to hunt down and catch the mink. Only 100 or so were recovered alive, most were killed by vehicles on the roadways or found dead of starvation the next spring.

On the other hand I once decked my former roommate (I was pulled off of him actually) for locking my cat in the freezer after it knocked over his bong in his room. Some people just have no common sense. I wish I could lock him in a room with a bunch of crazy peta people.

Here's the thing: The people you describe in this paragraph are typically NOT "animal rights protestors", and certainly not the nutjobs who bomb labs or dig up dead grandmothers.

I like the OP's poorly written post because it allows me to madlib.

....

But to contribute... America is great because people like these activists are allowed the liberty to voice their opinion.

I could care less about this activist group that the OP is getting her nuts in a bunch about (yeah, i did).

However, I fully RESPECT the rights of my neighbor in this country to voice their beliefs, even if I think it sucks.

so OP... you = goto 1942 germany, boy.

I'm all for animal rights and fair treatment for animals, but if they have to hit a monkey in the head with a hammer to find a cure for cancer or aids, then so be it.

Humans > Animals

Always has been, always will be.

how do you assume im a she from my poorly written post lol? this is ATOT wouldn't the default assumption be male?

i respect the rights they have too, they have a right to voice their concerns....what im getting at is just how far they are taking it (noting down HGV license plate numbers so they can track down any and all companies contributing to the building of the animal lab, being violent, vandalising private property, breaking into the building site along with previous efforts of burning down stores that sold fur and digging up a guinea pig farmers dead mother) and then seemingly curbing the same rights the opposition had

the leader of the SPEAK campaign (the nutters in this documentary) was invited to join a debate. he wouldnt let the Pro animal testers get a word in edge ways....he just shouted his views over anyone who questioned him.

some even said " your on the record as saying that any oxford university student will be a target for our attacks" to which he replied; "i'm not on record as saying that, your twisting things and putting words into my mouth...blah blah blah"

when he finally took a breath from barraging the girl with just pure shouting she actually pulled out proof that he was on the record as saying that and he didnt like that one bit and went off on one again.

they are the kind of people that will impose their views quite strongly on you but then wont even give you the right to explain your arguement.

case in point, 16 year old oxford lad.

he decided to make his own protest poster...... a poster saying he agrees with the building of the lab. he stands on the opposite side to the animal testing protesters who have a court injucntion (right word?) saying they cannot come within 50ft of the building.

what happens? they come rushing over to try pull his post of him and stand there shouting abuse in his face. he thought he was gonna get done over.

the police even set up a human wall of police officers on horses to stop them getting to the building site. this didnt faze the protesters at all as they tried to brute force their way past the police while shouting at the police for being cruel to the horses they were riding.

arrests ensued and too right, some one needs to show them they arent above the law like they seem to think they are

(and for anyone wondering... i could take or leave animal testing where cosmetics is concerned, there are rules for that now anyway. all im bothered about is testing for medical advancement.)

everyones got the right to say what they like....... but this lot are taking that right and running a mile with it. some of their actions are way overboard.

the guy who leads the SPEAK campaign was previously arrested for having a bomb making factory set up in his apartment. there were previous bombings where children as young as 3 were injured with shrapnel from a car bomb.

now come on, if your neighbourgh did that to you to try get his point across would you let it slide?

not all animal protesters are like this, and true enough one of the fathers of animal rights campaigners atually agreed that the tests on monkeys were justified because of the quality of life improvements many recieved from the experimental procedures carried out on the monkeys were just too great. (something like 100 monkeys to improve the lives of 40,000 parkinsons patients)

its just the nut jobs who take it to the extreme and obviously garner bad press for all animal testing protestors

Well taken, and I see your passion for this topic.

However, it's just like any extremism. People who are extreme about any topic tend to be retarded.... but their retardedness is protected by the basic foundation of our country.

I take the stance that anything outside of common sense is utter retardation, like the guy you are talking about.... he is, in fact, a retard.

But the same goes for the opposite of a total hippie tard phuck, which is an evangelican ass pounder.... they both hate each other but are soooooooo extreme that each are equally retarded.

I suggest you sit back and laugh at ass tards that prove darwin's theory over and over.

good point

i guess it is funny in a way, because even though they are getting TV coverage.....they come across as completely pathetic.

i shouldnt let them rile me up. but ill be pretty pissed if their protests stop us from finding treatments to parkinsons and alzhimers, my nan has both and its been hard to see her change....... she's still in there and thats the hard part, the nan i know is still there, she just cant get out.

seriously.....would this kind of animal rights nuttyness go down in the US? without someone getting shot?

Depends on where it is. Outside of the uber-liberal areas (a la Boulder, CO) most of the US is fine. Most of the people who aren't with them would rather ignore them (irritate them with their shirt slogans) Anyway, many (not all) animal rights activists are some serious nut jobs, Hence the A.L.F and their endorsing parties *cough* PETA *cough*. Green Peace seems to be okay...usually, but they do seem to put their foolish selves in serious harm's way with some of the oil drilling and whaling companies, when they try to go up against huge ocean tankers with their little dingys.

Whaling companies?? Whaling is illegal worldwide.[/N]

Native Alaskan tribes practice whaling, and I think some tribes in Canada do as well.

they're attacking anyone at all linked with oxford university and any company and its members linked with the building of the new animal testing lab in oxford.

i mean they say they are fair and legal in protests.....but how is vandalising private property, attacking people who disagreee with them, blowing stuff up, setting fire to shops that sell fur and diggin up some ones dead mother fair and legal?

and the free speech they love so much, the free speech that grants them the right to protest, they wont allow any of the opposition to get a word in edge ways.

it's a good cause that has been ruined by extremeists.

As all single issue causes generally are.
