I was playing tennis on Saturday. I went for a return, and felt a snap in my ankle, right where the calcaneal fibular ligament is, the area of my ankle that has been bothering me on an off for about a month because of running. It swelled up horribly, and it's slowly been going down. Now, my injured ankle is slightly (noticeably) bigger than the un-injured ankle. I saw the doctor today, and he said the pain/swelling was caused by the same thing that causes whiplash. Your sight isn't aligned with the horizon, so your body goes to correct it, and it's like a screen door. It over-corrects a few times, and eventually gets into place. Meanwhile, havoc is wreaked on the muscles around the ankle, and that causes swelling and pain.
So is this valid? I thought that it HAD to ligament-related. I'm obviously not a doctor, but it seems odd.
