HIS IceQ X Turbo 7850

- List your computer specs
- post a picture of your rig !
http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=28950370&postcount=4

- Tell me briefly what you hope to use the card for and what games you play.
I'd like to be able to actually play some games on my computer... I had to give up on World of Tanks because of bad frame rates on my 4870. There's quite a few other games that would work on Linux if I had some more horsepower too.

I'm entering for the gfx card.

Specs;

i7 860
12 gb ram
MSI GTX 260
64 gb SSD
600W OCZ PSU

I need a new card for Planetside 2! Loving that game, but my gfx card can barely run it. I play most every FPS and RPG that comes out, and my card is finally starting to struggle with new games.

Here's my rig:

Yes, its on its side. Thanks for the chance

Rig:

AMD 1100T
ASRock mobo
Enermax 1350W psw

I would use the GPU for distributed computing for TeAm AnandTech. And I would develop mathematical applications using Mathematica

I hope the fact that I will not have it plugged into a monitor doesn't disqualify me

HIS IceQ X Turbo 7850

Haven't had a gaming desktop since socket A. Do have a core 2 gaming laptop that can still run some things. Would put this in a Dell with a i5 2400 and integrated graphics, probably to play CS:GO and maybe Guild Wars 2 at 1920x1200 on a P-MVA Soyo 24" from '06 Black Friday.

Pic of rig? It's a Dell...

Err.. forgot to put that I am in for the HIS IceQ X Turbo 7850.

- List your computer specs
CPU: Intel Dual Core e5200 Wolfdale
MOBO: Gigabyte G31M-ES2L
RAM: 4GB DDR2
GRAPHICS: Radeon HD 6670
PSU: Antec Basiq 430w
CASE: Generic $20 case I got online years ago

- Post a picture of your rig !

Yes, that is a hole I cut out on the side there. That panel used to be on the other side and I used to put one of those small student fans there to cool it.

- Tell me briefly what you hope to use the card for and what games you play.
I'm volunteering for an organization and would use it to do graphics projects for them, basic things like photo editing and design. And when I'm not doing that, I'd like to pop in some Guild Wars 2 since the first one was pretty good.

I'd like to enter for the headphones!

My computer:
my computer:
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core
G.SKILL 12 GB Raptor 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP
GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD3R LGA 1156 Intel P55
XCLIO Windtunnel Fully Black Finish 1.0 mm SECC Chassis ATX Full Tower
CORSAIR 750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V
27" ASUS LCD Monitor
WDHD 750 GB Black
Mushkin 120 GB SSDD

I need the headset because I don't have one as my old one was crushed when we moved a couple of months ago. I'm getting ready to return to World of Warcraft (after the patch drops Tuesday) and I really need a good headset for raiding and something like this is way beyond anything I could ever afford.

First, kudos to Annisman for the contest!
I'm tossing my hat into the ring for the HIS 7850.
I'm not an extreme gamer, but I am getting an itch to play Postal again.
If won, my main use for the card will be mining.
Here's my pic:

Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD 7750 Black Edition
4GB Adata DDR2-800
BFG 6600GT (Awaiting 8400GS RMA)

In it for the Corsair H80!

Restrictions: You may not enter if you already have a mid/high end CPU cooler. Again, use common sense, if the cooler was more than 30 dollars I wouldn't enter.
Check.

Mine was about $20 (some cheap Cooler Master product that was on-sale).

You must have either an Intel socket 775, 1155, 1156, 1366 or 2011. AMD AM2/AM3 socket for compatibility with the cooler.
Check.

Core i7 860 socket 1156.

You must have an available 120mm fan mount on either the rear or top of your PC case. Just about every case can mount one of these but if you're not sure, just ask !
Check.

Antec 900 case.

You must have at least 25 posts at the time of entering, if you enter without having 25 posts you will not qualify.
Check.

This is post # 9,294 from me.

Directions (All of these must be done):

- List your PC specs
  • Intel Core i7 860.
  • Some cheap MSI board from a bundle
  • 16GB mixed-and-matched RAM (go ahead and cringe!)
  • 2TB WD "Green" boot drive (cringe some more)
  • Some OCZ PSU that was included as a freebie with something I ordered on Newegg (I think it's 600w)
  • BFG GTX280 OC (so much for the "lifetime warranty")
  • Logitech G15 v2 keyboard.
  • Logitech G9 mouse (not the G9x)
  • Hannspree ST289MUB LCD TV for a monitor (refurbished from Newegg for $230) 1920x1200, low-quality TN panel, low pixel density that my poor eyes can tolerate.

- Tell me have you ever overclocked your CPU ? Would you do it if you won the cooler ?
Nope, not this one. I don't see how this cooler would really help, so I would probably re-gift to my nephew (he currently uses a stock Intel cooler for his Core i5 750). I don't really consider it a waste for him to use this. This thing doesn't have much more surface area than a 120mm HSF (if any), so it doesn't help to improve cooling or reduce noise. It's just for looks.

- Give me your CPU history (for example mine would be AMD 3700 > AMD 4800 > Intel E6600 > Intel E8400 > Intel Q9650 > Intel i7 920 > Intel i7 3930K.
Cyrix P150 thumbsdown > Intel P3 500mhz thumbsup > Dual Celeron A w/ Abit BP6 mobo confused > P4 Willamette 1.3Ghz (meh) > Unlocked AMD Mobile Barton awe > AMD Athlon 64 x2 (meh) > Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 awe > Intel Core i7 860 thumbsup

I'm sure I've missed a few. Not sure where to put the Intel Pentium 3 "SpeedStep" 700mhz.

Also figured I should stick to x86 PCs and leave-out my old TI-BASIC, PowerMAC, game consoles, etc.

- Post a funny picture involving 'I can has cheezburger'
Playing it safe here:

- Sit back and relax, you're entered.
K.

Maybe you can't tell, but the chair is leaning all the way back.

(I hope duckface + MySpace angle doesn't disqualify me)

CS:GO and Portal 2.

- Think hard about your favorite game of all time, what is it ?

Judging by number of hours played, it's either Civilization 4 or Battlefield 2. I still play Civ4 on occasion, so it's stood the test of time better than BF2, but for a whole summer I was addicted to BF2 and racked up hundreds of hours in virtual warfare instead of going outside and getting exercise D:

- (Optional) post a funny picture of an animal, cat, dog, guinee pig, whatever you want. Because I can't get enough !

Moose are my favorite animal ^_^

Great idea and contest!

So, I'll post for the video card.

What will it be used for? My father-in-law's system (he's 82 and becoming quite the "gamer"....used to be strictly golf, hunting games, but since I moved up, he's playing Civ IV and V a bit.) Think he's becoming a strategy and RTS gamer, as much as he can be, anyway. He's trying.

The system it's going in.....I just rebuilt/upgraded his old computer to something modern. And as I was transferring some older components (hard drive, video card), the gpu died an untimely death---probably well deserved, though, as it was an old 5450 I sent him quite a while ago. This new system is his first that's been all his in a long time and not just a bunch of old, cast off parts stuck together to "make do".

Current system specs:
Intel i3 2120
Biostar TZ77A motherboard
8GB Corsair DDR3 RAM
500GB WD Blue SATA hard drive
Antec Neo Eco 520W power supply
Samsung 22X optical DVD-RW

Win 7 Pro OS

Missing: The gpu. Right now, it's operating on the internal gpu built into the i3----not exactly the best situation, but he's putting up with it, barely. But it's frustrating for him and me, to say the least.

Obligatory system pic:

In for the $50 games

I like first person shooters/multi players. So most likely one of the new ones such as Call of Duy 3 or Battlefield 3.

Still like Americas Army better than most of the new games out today. Mostly for the game play since the graphics are old.

Razer Tiamat 7.1 Circumarual Surround Gaming Headset

This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1599x956 and weights 356KB.

These headphones are phenomenal for first person shooters, and pretty average for everything else. Though I often play FPS, I couldn't stand swapping them out with my SteelSeries Siberia V2 cans to listen to music with. So now that I don't use them they're up for grabs. Oh, and they're about 2 weeks old with maybe 10 hours of total use, practically brand new.

Restrictions: You may not enter for the headset if you already have a mid/highend headset already. Use common sense, I would say if they cost more than 50 dollars they are at least mid range.

You must have either a sound card with 7.1 inputs (front, rear, side, sub, mic) or 7.1 inputs on your motherboard, which many now have. These headphones cannot be used without these inputs as they are physically 7.1 not 2.0 ! If you are not sure what you have you can ask in this thread.

You must have at least 50 posts at the time of entering, if you enter without having 50 posts you will not qualify.

This is not a restriction, but I strongly suggest anybody considering entering for these headphones be an avid FPS gamers, and either have a decent 7.1 soundcard or are planning on getting one. Again, not a restriction just a very logical suggestion, as if you plan on using these to play music or don't want to invest in a 7.1 soundcard you will be shortchanging what this headset is actually made for.

Directions (All of these must be done):

- List your computer specs
- Tell me what games you play/what your favorite games are.
- Post a picture of the cutest cat you can find on the interwebs
- Sit back and relax, you're entered.

Very cool thing to do. My computer:

Antec P180 Mini
ASUS P8P67-M PRO (onboard 7.1)
Intel Core i7 2600k
16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3-1600
2GB XFX Radeon 6950 (one of the lovely originals where you could unlock the 6970 shaders)
Dell U2711
I do not currently own a headset and get grief via my speakers for it on the regular…

I play Starcraft 2, Heroes of Newerth (probably DOTA 2 in the future), UT3, TF2, Assorted Indie titles, L4D2, Assassin's Creed (many), others with less frequency.

Cat picture [edit, amending cat picture because it was more funny than 'cute' and replacing it with a picture of my cat]:

I am now sitting back and relaxing, just like those two

HIS IceQ X Turbo 7850
Directions (all of these must be done):

- List your computer specs

AMD Phenom 1090T
Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5
Corsair Force GT - 180gb
G skill 8GB 1866
AMD 4850x2 512 MB
Corsair 850W
Cooler Master HAF 932

- Tell me briefly what you hope to use the card for and what games you play.

As I stated in my specs, my 3rd 4850 died recently. Like you Annisman I used to be able to buy the latest and greatest, but February of this year when I was looking over the 7 series of cards, we got the great news we will be having a child. We do not pay for cable, so we are looking to build a PC for use as a "kiddie HTPC" - I would love to send my wifes 3870 into that machine and give her my 4850x2 for a nice upgrade.
As far as games, we usually play together (my wife loves gaming). They include games such as Borderlands, League of Legends, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, World of Tanks and Left 4 Dead. I also play the Cod's Mw's and such but the wife isnt into those as much.
-
post a picture of your rig !

will edit later today with pic of my rig and my wifes, I need to dig up the camera.

- sit back and relax, you are now entered.

Just wanted to say thanks that you are doing this!
