I know I've seen this posted a few times, but a quick search turned up nothing so I'm making it a new thread.

My speakers keep making this annoying popping/static kinda sound when I'm listening to mp3s (haven't done anything else today). I haven't heard it until today, I don't know what the hell is causing it.

My (relavant) specs are

Athlon 700
Abit KA7
SB Live Value
Elsa Geforce DDR
128 PC133 Infineon

Its probably because they were encoded badly. Disconnect and reconnect all your speaker connections just be sure no dust has settled in.

I noticed that on a crappy sound card I had, but the same MP3s sounded fine on my SBLive value. I would try upgrading your sound drivers to Liveware 3.0 if you haven't done so already.

Is there a way you can check some of your MP3s on another computer? Also, when you hear a pop, can you rewind the song and hear the pop in exactly the same location in the song? If so, I'd have to agree with lumpyhed2 about the bad encoding.

That happens to me sometimes too. It's not the mp3 file, and not the speaker connection in my case. It fixes itself when I reboot. I think it's because of static inside my case (maybe being emitted from my video card or cpu). The digital output on the Live cards seem especially sensitive to this. When I have time I'll try to move my sound card to a different PCI. (further away from the video card) I'd try that if I were you.

No luck, I've got liveware 3.0 and I've reconnected all my speakers. Its not the mp3s either, cause it does it on every one. I've tried removing and reinserting my sb live, still no luck. HELP!

Tried another set of speakers? Even some cheapo ones, just so that you can see if it is in fact that speakers and not the soundcard that's the problem...

My speakers also pop sometimes. When someone in the house turns on a ceiling fan or flips a switch or even the washer/dryer can cause a loud pop in my speakers. Its scares the heck out of me everytime to. Is this my speakers or the wiring in the house or something?
