Another Amex Blue Warning: 1 Day Late On Payment = No BVG For That Month

This is a heads-up to those doing the BVG price match game, I just got off the phone with an Amex CSR and this is what she had to tell me. If you are just 1 day late on your statement payment, Amex considers your account non-current for that entire month. And if your account is not current, they will turn down any BVG claims made that month. In order to clear this up after you have paid your bill and made your account current, you have to call the BVG number (1-800-557-8317) and have them re-instate any BVG claim(s) made during that month. Again, this is what a CSR told me, it may or may not be corporate policy but I couldn't find anything in the Evidence of Coverage documents about how they deal with non-current accounts. Hope this helps.

PS: I know this is not truely a hot deal but it can affect some people who are trying to make a hot deal. So to those of you who's only contribution to this thread is going to be "gee, this isn't a hot deal", go ahead and reply, it'll just keep bumping it up.

Where's the HOT deal? Bottom line be responsible and you'll have no problems getting your BVG. Now please someone find a hot laptop deal!

Valvoline6,
Because you cared enough to be the first responder to my post, I searched high and low to come up with a DOUBLE hot deal just for you. First go to this site and take advantage of the "4 pairs for $55". Then go to this location and learn to put those 4 pairs to good use (see the PS in my original post).

And what's up with this comment: Bottom line be responsible and you'll have no problems getting your BVG? I'll take your arrogance to mean that you have never had to make a late payment or have never been on the receiving end of a post office screw-up.
This is a post about getting the services which you are entitled to so long as you are in good standing with Amex. If someone has paid their bill late then the services which they are entitled to should be re-instated immediately upon receipt of payment, not the following month. You should not have to call them and remind them of the service contract which you have with them.

Bottom line: take the time to read the entire post and do your pontificating elsewhere.

I was just having fun with you. Isn't obvious? You say "So to those of you who's only contribution to this thread is going to be "gee, this isn't a hot deal", go ahead and reply, it'll just keep bumping it up", so I respond with "where's the hot deal?" LOL.

Lighten up a little and don't be a lazy bum and put off mailing your payment. I suggest registering for online payment so the USPS can be skipped. Plus it is much faster. Just a helpful tip to help everyone maintain their BVG status during those times when you get amnesia about your CC bills.

Valv,
No problem, my bad, I inadvertently thought you were being a pr!ck. My sh!tty week from last week is bleeding over into today, got a chip on my shoulder. I actually wasn't being a lazy bum about my payment, it was due a week before Christmas and USPS took a looooong time to get it there.

I'd love to sign up for online payment but I'm a victim of the @Home fiasco. Still waiting for DSL and don't want to go through the hastle of getting a 56k account for 1 month so I have to suffer with NetZero.

BURNED! that was a funny one Pullmyfinger. This is actually a very HOT deal. Amex Blue is really bad about late payments even when on time. A few months ago I noticed I was given a late charge and interest charged even though my payment was sent electronically and received by Amex on the due date. I called and they said they need to receive it 48 hours prior to the due date for "processing." This is total BULL.. Someone could easily win a class action on this. Thousands of people are being charged interest even though their payments are sent in on time. I can't believe a company as large as Amex gets away with this. I asked a manager and she said it's in their Terms of Service; I checked and it is not.

The moderators have been kind enough to provide us with a Brag & Moan thread permanently affixed to the beginning of this forum. The first post in this thread, made by the moderators, says " This thread is for posting your off topic raves and rants, such as "X-company did this to me" which sounds like it's tailor-made for your complaint. You might want to consider movng your post there.

PS - paying your bills on time eliminates the problem all together and no, I have never made a late payment.

I believe there was a statement that said online payments should be made at least 48 hours in advance when I signed up for it. It may not be in the printed terms of service but you should try looking online as well.

One habit that insures never late:
Make the minimum payment the day the monthly statement is received.
That guarantees you're account is current and avoids possible $ penalties.

Pay whatever portion of the balance toward the payment due date you'd care to.

My epayment bank is a flat rate per month, regardless of the number of payments issued.
So, I pay CC bills in two separate pieces - immediate minimum followed later with remaining balance.

Apologies for being OT.
But avoiding unnecessary penalties / consequences is a "Hot Deal" (well, kinda' )

It's right on the online payment page. All CCs not just AMEX suspend card benefits if your bill is not paid on time.

Amex BVG is a hot deal. When a hot deal goes sour due to whatever reason, I believe it's only sensible to alert as many fellow readers as possible, and posting in Brag & Moan unfortunately does not alert a lot of members. I for one am truly thankful to PullMyFinger for sharing this information. As to your statement of "never being late in your payment" it is totally irrelevant for this forum and completely belongs to the 'Brag' part of Brag & Moan.

With Amex and a lot of other companies, you can also pay by phone, if you don't have online access. If you just paid on the due date online, they might say it was late since it actually takes a few days to get to amex from your bank. But if you paid before your due date and they actually received it on the due date, you are right, that is total bull. First Usa is probably the worst company in payments, you can send a payment certified mail the day you get the statement, they will still sometimes say it is late. Sometimes they even show the payment on your next statement being before the due date yet your payment is still marked as late. (This didn't happen to me, thank god.) But with just about every credit card company, you lose all benifits, like low interest rates, extra warenties, etc. when your account is in default.

Thanks StringAttached,
I was actually going to post this in the Off Topic section but I noticed there were several other Amex Blue postings about possible service problems so I felt that posting it in the Hot Deals section was warranted. Because many of the posted hot deals require Amex Blue price matching, I'd hate for someone to get burned when they realize that they were denied, lets say, 28 days of services when their account was only non-current for 2 days (or however many days late the person's payment is).

Um, thanks Allisolm, but contrary to what you have assumed (you know what happens when you assume), this is not a rant topic but instead a warning to those trying to put together hot deals with Amex Blue that they may be ineligible due to questionable practices.

I like Nekote's double payment option, gotta see if my bank can do something like that.
