Toys ‘R’ Us Inc could file for bankruptcy in the coming weeks as pressure from skittish suppliers intensifies, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The company and its restructuring advisers are considering filing for Chapter 11 protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond, Virginia, according to the WSJ report. (on.wsj.com/2h87WOt)

The privately-held toy retailer had previously said it was working with investment bank Lazard Ltd to help address its approximately $5 billion in debt, of which roughly $400 million comes due next year.

The potential Chapter 11 filing could be a result of the company’s suppliers tightening trade terms, including holding back on shipments unless the toy retailer is able to make cash payments on delivery, the newspaper reported.

Yep. Unlike some retailers like Best Buy, there is nothing you can get at Toys R Us that you can't get online. Writing is on the while - shut 'em down.

Everyone buys everything at Wal-Mart. Plus kids don't play with toys, they play with iPads these days. Here kid, shut up and stare into this tablet playing retarded games for hours. I'm sure this will end well.

Their online presence must be non existent, too, because I can't recall ever searching for something (e.g. consoles, Nerf guns) and not having it turn up Amazon, Target, or Walmart rather than Toys R Us.

I buy there sometimes in a pinch. You can price match their website which usually have lower prices than in the store. But as said above, there is nothing unique you can't find online. Seems like this has happened before. They closed all their stores around me circa 2000 and then came back somehow.

They do have good and cheap store branded diapers. Better than the Walmart diapers.
I'm gonna miss walking down the isles with my son touching and playing with the toys on display. Now I'm feeling guilty not buying anything but diapers there

Damn when I was I thin 12 ish I remember when the first ToysRus in the area opened up. Picking up Hot Wheels stuff and got a bike as well. It's the one whose roofed collapsed many years ago from a snow storm, it was never rebuilt. All my peers are dying as well as all my stores what next sears?

I used to love walking down the video game aisle at TRU and flipping over the covers and looking at the backs of the boxes. Then the game you wanted wouldn't have a ticket below it, so you would go ask at the counter past the registers where you picked the games up, and they would have 1 last copy.

Damn those were the days. Now it's just go to amazon.com click 3 times and it shows up later that day or the next day or launch day.

I remember as a kid when we'd go down south I was always excited when I'd see a Toys'r'Us and begged my parents to go. Haha. But yeah it seems everyone just buys everything online now. And as far as toys go, they don't really buy toys anymore they just give their kids an ipad or iphone.

There is a book titled "Disrupt You" by Jay Samit and he talks about the disruption that is happening today in our economy. Many businesses that were once sound economically are going to be in trouble because they are still doing business as if it's the 20th century. Sears and Kmart are just two. Now it's Toys R Us.

I'd like to see colleges get disrupted. Why are text books so damn expensive? Why are we using text books anyway? We should be able to download the book on pdf format for a fraction of the cost of a hardback book.

Modern mega-retail is a debt machine. Start an LLC with the flimsiest of business plans. Borrow a f'ton of money, expand beyond all reason, pay your executives un-godly sums, raid your pension fund, go bankrupt and screw your creditors. Start a new LLC with another fantastical idea and repeat.

They should be open source, and curated/expanded over time. There's no logical reason a student should have to purchase a $200 book, and then use 10% of it.

Big Textbook is all about apps now. Apps with a subscription of course.

The textbook lobby is huge. That is why they the ones mandated by public school are so expensive.

They just lost $164 million this last quarter, they have total liabilities of $6,572 million, and their #1 source of revenue is with baby stuff.
They are sitting on $3 billion in property & $2 billion in inventory.

I bet they are going to close at least 40% of their 866 stores, and stick with baby stuff which is their bread & butter.

Ugh it's so true though. Every store seems to have their own loyalty programs. I really don't want to have to carry a bazillion cards with me so I don't bother with them, but at same time I know I'm probably getting over charged Just because I don't have their stupid card. I don't even bother with Air Miles. Typically I stick my credit card in my pocket and go. I don't like carrying a wallet, too bulky so I don't want to have all these cards I have to remember to bring.

I do wonder if there is a catch to things like Air Miles though, like they probably sell all your information or something. That seems to be the big thing to do now days.

It's the new trend, everything for a certain season starts to sell several seasons ahead so by the time that season actually comes they're out of stock. Try buying a Snowblower in December, you know, when there's actually lot of snow on the ground. They'll be sold out since they've been selling them since June. lol. I find this new trend annoying actually.

Which reminds me I should start considering buying more Christmas decorations. I think I might go LED this year for the house lights. With hydro prices it just makes no sense to run the 7w C9s. That's 175w per string lol.

same here re: cards. there are apps that scan the cards so you just need your phone and to select the right one at checkout. worked for me so far

There's a big controversy going around the Internet right now about a Silicone Valley startup selling Bodega machines, which is like a jumbo vending machine that replaces a corner store:

http://www.businessinsider.com/the-...bodegas-so-we-decided-to-hunt-one-down-2017-9

tbh that sounds awesome to me...I don't have to talk to anybody and can just get what I need and move on lol. I use Amazon Prime a lot, and I also use the self-checkout at the grocery store most often just so I can breeze through. I've grown to detest going to places like Best Buy because of all of the minor hassles you go through, like in that Dilbert comic.
