1. What YOUR PC will be used for:
- moderate to heavy gaming (no FPS, mostly RTS and RPGs), typical office type stuff, folding@home, dvd copying
- Oh, yeah. QUIET (not silent)
2. What YOUR budget is:
- $1100-$1200
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
- USA
4. IF YOU have a brand preference.
- no brand preference really. i've had bad experiences with Samsung HDDs, but this was years ago.
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts:
- none other than kbd/mouse
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads:
- yeah, I just have a question or two about the build. mostly psu rating and vid card stuff.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds:
- I do plan to moderately o/c, just to maximize bang per buck ratio. nothing serious though.
case - using rocketfish bought at BB for 50$ OTD.
cpu - Q6600 or e8400 - can't decide if quad is overkill at this point. the cpu intensive stuff i do these days is video conversion and game loading screens. while working i may have 8-10 apps running outside of the taskbar. looks like these two will be the same price next week.
hsf- scythe scnj-1100p - good for cooling? i hear they are quiet. i don't want to spend $65-70 on a TRUE + Scythe fan.
mobo - gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l - no frills and cheap, is it too cheap?
psu - corsair 520hx - never gonna dual vid card, 1 maybe 2 HDD, 2 DVD burners... is 520 too small, enough, or can i do with a corsair 450vx? otherwise i want dead quiet, modular and trustable.
ram - gskill 4GB ddr2 800 - possible to get a good OC with only 800 speed ram? by good I mean 3.5+ on e8400 and 3.0+ on the q6600. is gskill too 'budget'?
gfx - evga 8800GT or 8800GTS - i'm set on either one, but will i get $40 better performance from a G92 GTS over a GT? should i buy even lower and swap up through evga?
hdd - WD 6400AAKS - are these quiet and fast?
dvdrw - samsung sh-s203b drives - anyone use and have an opinion?
lcd - acer 22" al2216Wbd - very interested in opinions if anyone has one of these..
thanks for the advice, i'm just really fishing for any parts that scream out at you. i'll probably be pulling the trigger just before May 1.
