Another "choice" thread

Hey all,
I'm itching for a 980 Ti. I've narrowed it down to
EVGA Classified
or Asus Strix OC. Both are close enough to each other in price and specs.

Leaning a little towards Asus because I've been a fan of their motherboards for years, yay matching brands! :awe:

So I'm just looking for some opinions from owners of either brand.

EVGA seems like the better deal in the US but out of their range I'd probably go for the Hybrid over anything else. It will most likely be quiet and have higher stable overclocks around 1500 core despite being a reference card. Of course you need to have a place to mount the radiator and preferable have a fan controller to lower the radiator fan speed a bit.

IMO all non-watercooled 980 Tis run a bit too hot or loud as few brands bothered to truly upgrade the coolers from 980/970.

I've owned an EVGA GTX780 Classified and it's built like a tank. I presently own an EVGA GTX980TI SC and am VERY pleased. I also own a number of Asus motherboards and have been pleased with those.

BTW, I added an EK waterblock to my TI SC and it runs real cool.

I would have said the Classified two months ago but with EVGA pre-binning their chips so they can sell certain guaranteed ASIC quality chips in the Kingpin edition I'd be concerned that it would lessen my chances of getting a decent chip in anything else.

In case you have water loop in ur PC then Asus rog 980ti Poseidon is also there for $699. But customer service is a major pain in the rear in fact getting to their discussion forums is a problem..

ASUS customer service is crap. If your ASUS gear breaks, it'll never get fixed. EVGA on the other hand has a pretty legendary reputation

EVGA, even though the Asus is sexier, nothing sucks more than Asus service.

I would not spend $650 on an Asus GPU in the US because if something goes wrong, their GPU RMA is horrendous.

I would honestly pick almost any other AIB over Asus if prices are similar. Zotac Extreme AMP!, MSI Gaming, Gigabyte Windforce G1, Classy, etc.

Personally, I've only owned one ASUS vid card that is in here, and knock on wood it's worked just fine. Though I love their MOBO's.

Their support has horror stories, have owned many EVGA's in the past myself and they seem much more consumer friendly and better GPU's.

Would go back there again myself in the future.

Your making me want to tear mine apart and look at it and slap some tim in there maybe, but nah

I guess could just take the fan shroud off and look at it from the backside.
