I rented a 2015 corvette convertible while at disney world. the car got a ton of looks/comments, and it was viciously fast.

I drive a BMW convertible, but it makes me want to sell it and go for a corvette - the only issue is I've heard strange reliability issues with Corvette/Chevrolet, are they true?

What would those be? My wife had a 2001 and I have worked on many of them when I was a tech, mostly C4 and early C5's.
In terms of cars in the same league of the Corvette its one of the most reliable and easiest to maintain.
You can get oil/filter, brakes, plugs, etc... from most parts houses the same day and other parts are easy to get and not to costly compared to others that perform in the same group.

Engine compartment fires, or fires in general? I guess it's an American car notion in general, most of my friends with Chevy's seem to think their car is done before it hits 90-100K miles! Corvette's aren't cheap, I'd expect them to maintain reliably with expected maintenance well past 100K.

Corvettes (and other cars with similar qualities) usually end up succumbing to old age more so than high mileage. Very few owners commute every day with them (which you would have to be doing to rack up a lot of miles fast. Most are second or third cars.

What in the world are you talking about engine fires? They aren't Ferraris (or '14 GT3s...).

Don't have to be defensive about it, just asking.

Being a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd car in the garage doesn't have much to do with it. Although it'd be my 3rd car, it doesn't mean I wouldn't drive it a lot.

Sorry, cars are meant to be driven in my opinion. I expect reliability past 100K, I'm a consumer. I expect reliability past 150K in my personal preference. Maybe you don't buy a corvette for the reliability then...starting to sound like more of a waste of money than anything. 100K can be hit very quickly driven daily.

Wonder what else is in your garage that you'd prefer to not take a corvette to work, when I was younger I thought I'd garage my "better" cars. Purpose might be to hold value. Most cars are not investments.

My Corvette is the 3rd car in our household. I generally take my Mazda 6 to work as sitting in traffic or having knuckle heads hang up the car isn't fun to me. Now, on Friday's when traffic is light and I can get a prime spot in the parking deck I do drive it. The majority of the miles are weekend trips when I can focus on driving and not conference calls.

As Ferzerp said, you don't find a lot of high mileage Corvette examples unless you go back to the C4 and C5 generation and then you are talking 20-30 years old.

The Corvette is basically a truck engine and transmission moving a vehicle that weighs over 2000lbs less then what those components were designed for.

Drivetrain reliability is not something that I worry about. I'm a bit more concerned with all the high tech gadgets. I will probably buy a extended warranty at some point.

For what it is worth Corvettes hold their resale value much better then BMWs. I am sure part of that is due to their reliability and low maintenance cost.

I drive my corvette to work. I do have 2 cars and might swap them week to week or day to day depending on the weather or my mood so I get to drive both. No reason to believe that any modern american car will have significant issues within 100k. Really that is true of any modern car from any major manufacturer. That will take most people until well after their car is paid off.

Honestly you can't go wrong with either of those cars in the OP. Although that vette just takes awesomeness to another level.
