The Old...

The New...

It was a little over four months from putting down a deposit with a local dealer to picking up the car. I had been leasing the Evo for a sweet deal and am purchasing the Corvette.

The Stingray is as awesome as everyone says it is. One interesting tidbit is that the Evo made 300 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 rpm. The Corvette makes 316 ft-lbs at 1000 rpm. It is also a bit lighter. The interior is amazingly better in the Corvette (of course the Evo platform is 7+ years old)

Z51, 2LT, 8 speed automatic with magnetic ride control, navigation and the performance data recorder.

You had me until "8 speed automatic"

Congrats on the car!

Ha, yeah..

I forgot to mention that I'm 6'4" and I was concerned with the clutch pedal throw and knee to steering wheel interference

Actually though the paddle shifters with the 8 speed is a lot of fun. The gear ratios are very close and it sounds great ripping off some fast shifts.

It is also nice to be able to just leave it in Drive and Eco mode for some cruising.

Congrats! Is there anything you specifically don't like about the new Vette?

Thanks!

It is funny because I had spent so much time reading threads on the Corvette Forum before picking up the car that I was really worried about a few things. Will I fit in the car ok, is the automatic transmission a piece of junk, is the paint quality going to be acceptable, etc.. Lots of hand wringing over details.

After receiving the car I realize now that most people on the Corvette Forum need to chill out and drive their cars. It is a amazing car and for me it is like a dream car. Even when I was a kid I don't think I ever imagined a car could be this great.

Yeah at 6'4" entry and exit is less then graceful and another inch or two of legroom would be nice. Blind spots from the B pillars are a legitimate complaint. Minor issues...

However it is clear that every detail in the car had considerable engineering effort put into it. It really is the complete package and I have to agree with all the great reviews.

Why you like slower cars? The automatic car is faster (Qtr and 0-60) and gets the same gas mileage.

Because everyone who buys a sports car just hangs out at the dragstrip, right? Manuals are simply more engaging and more rewarding when driven correctly.

How so? Is that like how using monster cables makes sound more smooth and buttery?

This has got to be TIC.

Also goes down as one of the worst and weirdest analogies ever.

Members of a forum predominantly about computers look down on someone who bought a technically superior vehicle because the gear swaps are computer controlled.

:\

Its like saying someone is a loser because they lit a fire with a laser instead of flint and tinder.
Maybe the flint and tinder is more engaging but some people would rather zap the fire and be warm than beat rocks together waiting for a spark.

Anyway, Grats on the new ride.

I love punching my own computer cards too, so much more engaging and involved

Oh wait, actually I like my modern computer better.

Nice Vette, as much as I like the Evo X, I would consider that an upgrade.

Thanks. I feel bad for Mitsubishi that they really don't have anything competitive performance wise anymore. A 2.3L turbo Mustang would probably give a stock Evo a good run for quite a bit less money. Subaru is falling behind a bit as well with the WRX/STI. Those cars haven't received a power bump in quite a while.

The Evo is a great car but it is lacking in the refinement department. I wish they had something like a 400HP+ MR setup for touring.

Anyway the Corvette is on another planet as far as interior amenities and sophistication. It more like a Cadillac while the Evo is more like a basic rental car

Beautiful car!

How do you like the magnetic ride control? To me, that would be the 'must-have' feature if I bought one...

I personally prefer a MT, but don't begrudge anyone who grabs a AT, especially for the reasons you provide.

It is a great feature and I wish it was offered separate from the Z51 package. It definitely makes a noticeable difference in the ride. In track mode you can feel each individual piece of gravel you drive over. Touring is firm but not punishing. Body roll always seems well controlled although I haven't tested any limits yet.

I agree about it being a must have feature. It was definitely something I was looking forward to.

So....are you a menber of http://www.corvetteforum.com/? Great community......I've been with them since the 90's (hence my user name). Sure would like to upgrade my 85.

Just stay out of the Off Topic/Politics sections as the blatant racism and bigotry is awful. Had a Mod/Admin tell me it was ok as long as it was not aggressive or directed at one person since it allows people to blow off stem.
That and if you say anything wrong or bad about the site you get banned as well. Or bring up a product/site that does not pay them.

I stopped posting after that and few times I have been back its even worse now.

There are other Corvette sites that do not cater to those ideals and just stick to Corvettes.

I had been reading the C7 section extensively up until my delivery and I just joined the other day because someone wanted pictures of a Night Race Blue coupe with racing stripes.

I will agree with Jimzz that it does have it's questionable aspects. I probably will not post there very often.

Excuse me sir - I'm going to have to ask you to stop jacking my style.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I kept my Evo X because I wanted to have something to use in bad weather, and because it's modded and will be my modding toy for the nearish future. The interior comparison is night and day (my evo was an 08 with like 0 interior options lol).

Edit: also 6'4" here. Wish the seat in the vette was about 1-1.5 inches lower!

"Technically superior"? Says you. Manuals are a blast to drive, after you've learned how to drive them right.

HA! Given your political views, anything you say with regards to them has to be taken with a Corvette-sized grain of salt.

So in other words you have nothing to back up why the manual is better? And again that comes form someone with a manual trans Corvette.
