Sorry but you don't get to tell Americans what to say and not to say. You don't live in a Muslim country where people are arrested for insulting Islam.

And this routan is exactly what I mean. You can't expect to have your own freedom of speech, then want to limit what others say because it offends you. It offends me that you even put that thought into my head, so should I be able to censor what you're allowed to say? Fuck no. Also, if you ever want to have a chat you can always PM. I'll talk about whatever.

I really dont care what he likes or not likes. He can dislike women for all I care. As long as he keeps his feeling to himself, and not make Islamophobic statements, I will be happy.

Good luck with that. There are a lot of racists on this forum, so you should be prepared to deal with bigots of all types. For example, InfoHawk/Baasha and his white supremacy is basically the norm here. He has a lot of members here in his white power gang.

I have no idea what this thread is about, but it seems like a lot of people (or maybe just two or three) are really angry.

Uh..... you have heard of a concept called freedom of speech haven't you? He doesn't have to "keep his feelings to himself". He can freely speak them. Some will agree with him, some will disagree.

I'm Catholic and I've seen a ton of posts offensive to Catholics and Catholicism. Do I go around whining and reporting people to try and silence their views? No, I don't. People are entitled to their views and to express them, even if I think they are offensive/stupid/ignorant.

The only time I'd have an issue with people expressing an opinion is when they advocate direct violence against someone or some group - that crosses the line. Otherwise, they can express whatever they feel without any problem.

Back on topic: I don't have any illusions that NATO and the west backed the rebels out of pure altruism and a desire to free the people of Libya. They did it for a variety of reasons, including the fact that there are big potential rewards for ousting the terrorist Gadafi. So what?

I have my doubts about the rebel faction myself, but lets see what they do from here. Kicking out the tyrant is good, now we'll see if the next steps are good or bad for the people of Libya.

Why dont you tell me what being "culturally western" mean? You make a claim that I hate the west because I dislike Muslim lands being messed with? If that is your assertion, then I agree. I do not believe that ANY land should be messed with. This is not exclusive of being part of the Western culture.

I dont know where moderators were prostrating before me. This forum is rife with Islamophobic tendencies, and you are another example of it. This is not just my assertion, but as I pointed out, others also feel the same way.

I really dont care what he likes or not likes. He can dislike women for all I care. As long as he keeps his feeling to himself, and not make Islamophobic statements, I will be happy.

you claim to be culturally western, yet you don't understand one of the most basic human rights in the western world...

uh huh, why dont you exactly the same logic for those that insult Judaism, Semites, Homosexuals, or have an opinion about the Holocaust different from the accepted one? You dont. So please shut the fuck up.

See above regarding freedom of speech. I will also add that being American also means not to participate in hate speech.

And I will also add that it is funny that you bring up these freedoms when it serves an ulterior interest. Why the fuck arent you harping about freedom of religion and freedom of dress when countries like France ban Muslim attire? You dont. So shut the fuck up.

That same article reports that Gaddafi's forces killed 17 civilians. :hmm: Why don't you refer them as thugs too? Oh..I know, because those "thugs" received support from NATO.. and Gaddafi's forces did not.

if you actually paid attention to this thread, I have stated that these thugs are no better than the ruthless dictator

so if you want to interpret that as me supporting Gaddafi, or giving his side plaudits, you're just an ignorant and idiotic dick.

i like how you skipped the fact that you were called out on your bullshit lies about not corroborating facts. The least you can do is own up to your bullshit.

Thanks. Infohawk asked me what'd make me happy and I dont expect that to happen. I am aware of the racists and bigots here. And I point that out. Which irks people like Infohawk and Baasha. Being show the mirror and seeing their own ugly mugs.

That's completely wrong. As an American you have the right to speak your mind, no matter how stupid, ignorant or offensive. That's American, not trying to silence views you don't like or find offensive. That's un-American and backwards. It's the kind of mentality that makes a lot of other places the shitty countries they are.

Why the heck would I care what the French people decide is appropriate for their country? That's up to them.

See post above.

I have no issue applying the exact same standards to every other religion, race, ethnicity, whatever. People need to get over this idea that they are entitled not to be offended.

Also, AT is not my forum, and those running it can impose whatever standards they want. I'm just stating my opinion.

Umm you said an oppressive rule under a dictator is better than being ruled by these thugs.

I thought you were not supposed to resort to name calling during the holy month of Ramadan?

NO! Hate speech is a crime here. I dont know which redneck village you live in.

If you a supporter of American values and freedoms, then you should speak out against how the French are curtailing freedoms. Or is that in your mind, being American means only exercising your freedoms against Islam and Muslims? :hmm:

when this is done, i can have no reason to complain. it should be uniform application, not pick and choose which religion or race or sexual orientation or subject is censor worthy and which isnt.

either all of it is censor worthy, or none are.

i am amenable to that solution, but given the moderation record, their views have been biased.

WRONG. Here in the US, "hate speech" in and of itself is NOT a crime. Period. From wiki:
The United States is perhaps unique among the developed world in that under law hate speech regulation is incompatible with free speech.
The only time it becomes a crime in the US is if there are threats or a direct clear and imminent danger caused by the speech (like yelling "fire" in a theater). Speech, even "hate" speech is NOT a crime. For reference, just go look at the Westborough folks. If that isn't "hate speech", then nothing is. Yet it's perfectly legal, and the courts (all the way up to the SCOTUS) have confirmed this.

The concept of real free speech is dead in most of the world, and barely hanging on in the US.

If you a supporter of American values and freedoms, then you should speak out against how the French are curtailing freedoms. Or is that in your mind, being American means only exercising your freedoms against Islam and Muslims? :hmm:
Being American means you are free to exercise whatever freedoms you want. You are entitled to speak your mind, whether I like it or not, as I am entitled to speak mine, whether you like it or not. That freedom does not exist in most of the world because people like you think that other people should not have the right to say things you don't like.

I am not a fan of the French curtailing what people can wear, but it's up to them how they choose to try and maintain French culture in the face of a new culture that does not respect French core values.

Wow, you educated me.

However, that still does not detract from what I said later:

I don't disagree with you that "objectionable" material is not always treated the same way. I think it should be. But those who own/run the forums get to decide on what they find appropriate. ATOT and ATPN are definitely anti-religion, but I don't have a problem with that, to each his own.
