I've about had enough of these. It's a pathetic statement about our country when this is now the norm.
To quote John Oliver
"One failed attempt at a shoe bomb and we all take off our shoes at the airport. Thirty-one school shootings since Columbine and no change in our regulation of guns."

Police: Injuries reported in Oregon high school shooting

http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/10/justice/oregon-high-school-shooting/index.html

We need to wake up, realize something needs to be done, and fucking do it.
These gun nutters obsessions need to take a back seat to common sense once and for all

CNN says the shooter is dead.

Sheriff report they are reading confirms that.

Sadly, the one student he shot is also dead.

The Jon Oliver quote makes zero fucking sense. Unless we are going to ban all guns and then magically make them all disappear, people who choose to break laws against killing people aren't going to be swayed because the item they use is also against to the law to possess.

So, what are we going to do? Make guns illegal in schools? Already done that. Make guns illegal for crazies? Already done that. Make killing with guns illegal? Yep, that was done as well.

Please, do let me know what magical legislation you can make that will fix this problem. Have at it! I'm serious.

Here is something interesting: tally up all the deaths in every school shooting since Columbine and you get a few hundred. Not even 10% of the total gun deaths PER YEAR in the US.

I'm confused. Are you arguing that making everyone take off their shoes is a good idea and an effective means of preventing terrorism? Or that banning guns would just as futile?

No, it's simple, and I don't think some of you are as daft as you're pretending to be. We tried to eliminate the threat of 'shoe-bombing' by having our shoes taken off at the airport, everyone, no exceptions (that I know of).
So it's time to try something big, broad sweeping to prevent even one tragedy like this happening. Background checks come to mind, for everyone.

So you are in fact arguing that making every single person at the airport take off their shoes is an intelligent and effective means of preventing airplane bombings. OK then. I guess that makes one of you.

I would vote for opening NICS to everyone. Many pro-gun people have asked for that in the past.

I will not support a de facto transfer tax by requiring all transfers go go through an FFL.

The last time we allowed a transfer tax, Charlie Rangle falsified a house vote and we lost the right to register new machine guns. Never again.

It loses a lot of its comedy when you realize the intent of those signs isn't to prevent robberies but to prevent robberies from escalating into a mass shoot out.
I suppose that would be a good thing if you support murderers being able to go on a mass killing spree undeterred

Whats with all of the shootings in the Western most states lately?
These events do seem to clump together and its because the shooters see the "glorification" of the other shooters by the media. The LA shooter that posted to youtube is now a household name.

If instead of talking to their family and analyzing their manifesto, the media came out and said, "some dickless a$$hole just did some stupid thing because he was a loser", then maybe we wouldn't see so many of these events.

"Mass shoot outs"* happen about as often as Democrats claim voter fraud happens.

Democrats do support measures to stop one, but not the other. Clearly their brains are defective.

* What does that even mean? Sounds like some imaginary bogeyman that the left can claim they're against.

This fantasy you have of some sort of protracted gunfight where innocent bystanders are catching stray rounds isn't grounded in reality. Gunfights are fast (usually over in less than 10 seconds.) And in any event, a two way gunfight is always better than a one way gunfight.

You lack common sense.

Society has been getting more liberal over the years. The family unit has been destroyed, kids grow up with no discipline, no morals, no integrity, and give no value to human life. There is no accountability. What we have is that everybody runs around with a selfish "me too" or "fuck everybody else" attitude. No surprise shit like this happens.

Which values do you embrace? This starts at home. In the past, people used to be chastised if they didn't embrace certain values. Now people are scared to express their opinion. People run amok. Who's fault is that? Look at the media over the last few months. Anything ring a bell?

As society degrades, these problems will continue to happen. People are confused. Everything that goes on in society today is against what comes natural to humans. No wonder why people are so ever confused and go crazy. Those who "get it" are only going to cling to their gun even more. Good luck prying it from their hands.

I don't care if a few people got murdered in a school. Less people die in school shootings than die in USA prisons where the environment is even more sterile with guards patrolling 24/7. The amount of deaths that occur from mass shootings is minimal. 20 per year? Out of how many live in this country? Whoopee fucking do.

You can't eliminate crime, ever. Sorry. Some people will just have to be the unlucky few.

Better background checks than what we have now would be one solution. All this "feel good" shit with gun free zones is silly. it seems to be the MO of retards. "Well, it makes me feel good that I put this sign up". Sounds just like the stupid hashtag for Bring Back Our Girls. It sure as shit feels good but won't do a god damn thing in the long run.

The equivalent wouldn't be to change gun regulations, it would be to set up security zones at the entrance to every school, similar to those we have in airports.

You are wrong. Society cares plenty about other people. They care about taking from the haves and giving to the have-nots via gov't. Fuck the family structure, gov't will take care of it. Fuck good parenting, schools will make up for it.

And I'm not even saying that's a solution, but a step towards finding one. So far we've done jack shit. There's been a lot of finger pointing, but zero action.

American kids are pretty clever, and with the internet on everyone's phone, here is an outcome of a gun ban that I fully expect.

Guns are totally banned and confiscated.
Kid wants to kill, can't get gun.
Kid Googles, "How to poison people".
Kid poisons cafeteria food, kills 50 students.
Cell phones get banned.

You are going off on a tangent without knowing jack shit about this shooting.

Let's assume... Let's predict the following:

The shooter was another student who for whatever reason targeted the other student. The reason for purposes of discussion doesn't matter.

Predicting that... Where did the student get a semi-automatic handgun? (assuming it had to be a handgun as he got it into school or on school grounds - article mentions it was a semi-automatic)

Where did he get it? Probably owned by one of his parents. How? Because his jackass parent(s) kept it unlocked and ready by the nightstand, in the night stand, etc... Either that they kept it locked up and the kid knew the combination, where the key was etc.

The problem isn't the firearm. The need isn't more gun control. The solution is taking this parent (regardless of additional offspring in the picture) and charging them with accessory to murder/facilitating a murder and locking them up for ten+ years. Edit: When people see other gun owners paying that penalty, a large number of otherwise responsible gun owners will become actually responsible gun owners.

If my prediction isn't true or even close to true, I'll gladly engage the the normal gun crime banter here...

This is about responsible gun ownership. This is about enforcing stiff penalties for gun owners who do not control the access and safety of their weapons at all times. I say that as a gun owner. I say that as a rabid 2nd amendment supporter. I say that as an owner of scary black rifles. I say that as a parent with a child in my house.

The only action that needs to be taken is remove the "gun free zones". They are simply murder friendly zones.
