Another Disaster......

All of a sudden, on my wife's computer, she could no longer boot. She has two hard drives (both of which happen to be bootable, but one, a Fujitsu, is made slave). Interestingly, when I remove the slave, drive 0 will boot. Put the slave back on, neither will boot. Put the slave on alone as master, it will not boot.

I fear that the Fujitsu is cooked, but can't understand why, when it's in the system, will not allow the master drive to boot anyway. Does anyone know of anything that will help?

Problem like that makes the power supply a prime suspect.
How old is it and what size is it ?????

Well i'd really doubt its the power supply if it wont boot even with the Fujitsu as master by itself...

when you say it wont boot - does the system power on at all?

If so, id put the fuji as slave and get hold of some fuji diagnostic software on a bootable disk - chances are the drive is faulty.

If not, then i'd say that if the only variable is that HDD - and you get no power-up at all with it connected, then...

A) if there's no power AT ALL - then it'll be the drive circuitry shorting out the power supply.

B) if there's power but no POST screen (fans spin, etc.) - then it'll be the drive circuitry shorting out the bus.

Either way - i'd say that drive is dead, mate...
