Up untill this point I have used ICS that is installed on a w2k server that is a p100 128mg machine. I have two others that access it, a 233 mmx, and a 433 cel.

With that being said here is the situation. I am getting dsl soon (week or two). I am thinking about how I am going to hook it up. It is from a place called socket internet that hosts for southwestern bell. The PC requirements say 133 machine (or equivilent).

My preferred option is to stick another nic in my 2k machine and configure the dsl on it and then enable forwarding and it SHOULD work.....right? Or am I totally insane here? Also what is the reasoning for the pc requirments? My p100 gateway/server should work ok right?

I can buy a linksys or whatever, but I would rather save my 150$.

my DSL provider allows for multiple IP's, so what i'm doing is just buying a 5 port switch and connecting my computers to that. do you know if yours supports multiple IP's?

I can't find anything yes or no about that one. I know the ip's are dhcp'd to me, but I hate to ask too much about this. I want to be able to say that no one told me I couldn't use multiple pc's if they have a problem with it.

A lot depends on how everything is going to be hooked up. If your provider gives a Cisco 675 DSL router, it will serve as a DHCP server and it will have your NAT table. All your systems will get an internal IP from the router and the router will have your external IP from your ISP. I have my router setup as the gateway. If I were you, do some research on setting up a NAT table on your router that you will be using, that way you can set your filter and close the ports that you don't want people trying to access. The same will work with a Linksys router. I find that this is the easiest way to set it up rather than running 2 NIC's in one system. Running a proxy server can lead to many headaches down the road. Once you get your equipment and you have any questions, feel free to email me.
