another dual boot question

I have xp home on primary master hd. Am going to put mandrake 9.2 on primary slave hd. Is it safer to unplug hd with xp on before install (I read this somewhere here and can not find it now)? I really do not want to screw up the xp install and I do not mind using bios for dual boot. As I am the master of format c, I have developed a form of paranoia to these types of things.

I guess the other choice is something like Norton Ghost, which costs money.

I would allow LILO to handle it all, and i'm an linux n00b myself

if you ever don't want linux anymore, you unplug the 2nd HDD, boot to recovery console on XP and run fdisk /mbr and you should be fine

dont take this the wrong way, but you have to be pretty dumb to mess up a mandrake install. it will specifically ask you where you want to install linux, and unless you specifically tell it you want to delete your windows partition, it wont. as long as you pay attention and dont just hold the enter key down during the install, you should be fine.
