yes, and you're still wrong IMO

Seconded.... throwing paypal fees into the mix is just asking for problems.... I always throw a little extra in for the shipping ( I usually do half of paypals fees) with the intent on covering some of the paypal fees, I REALLY hate people who charge paypal fees and never bid on their crap. You almost as bad as those who carge insane shipping prices.

"upon deposit of $6.07 to my paypal account, the phone will be shipped within XX hours."

People make things harder than they need to be. And I do think the others are correct when they say paypal fees can't be tacked on like that.

DIng...ding....ding....

A smoother transactioni would have been to tell the person EXACTLY what they owed you up front... You've gotta bloat shipping with a handling charge for this purpose...

Given the tone of the first two messages, which I also wouldn't feel comfortable about--with the seller, oh, maybe shipping tomorrow, maybe Wednesday, oh, "trying" to ship it soon, etc.--that third message would clinch it for me. That third message is terrible.

Ouch, sorry but you're wrong, limsandy.

If it were me, I'd email him, offer him some $ off of the orig price (no paypal fees} & try to complete the deal.

Folks are generally pretty lenient with feedback on eBay, you're crossing the line here.

Meh... I don't think the OP really did anything that bad. Yeah, she wasn't supposed to charge the Paypal fees, but the buyer clearly didn't know this either. And I would guess that at least half of you jumping on the pwnage bandwagon didn't realize that either until it was pointed out. She was just trying to get the payment she thought she was owed and the buyer wouldn't commit to paying. The fact she wasn't technically allowed to charge that fee aside, you people would be pissed too if someone wouldn't pay what was owed to you in an auction.

You, sir, are correct.

However, this happens a lot on Ebay, and unlike everyone else, she posted about it, thus instigating the hyper/uber/maximo-pwnage.

He's in for a treat when he wakes up and checks this thread. Except for the first three replies within the first four minutes (RossMan!?!), not a single response in his favor.

That, and you asked him to send non-CC paypal, which would mean that you will not get charged a paypal fee. You are wrong, send the phone, STFU.

WRONG!

The ebay policy relates to paypal creditcard fees. There is a federal law stating that a business cannot do surcharges for using credit cards - if ebay was to allow surcharges like that, they'd be liable for law suits and such.

I've dealt with ebay CS because of that before and they advised me that it's just a matter of wording. If you state that "electronic payments require xx processing fee" you're fine. If you say add 3% for paypal, ebay will throw a fit.

There's creative ways to charge your paypal fees onto the buyer that are within ebay policies. PM me if you're interested.

Well I knew that charging extra for PayPal was not okay. But that?s not the half of it.

It?s pretty obvious that what the buyer really wanted was an assured shipping date before he presumably would have completed the transaction. Unfortunately, an unambiguous answer is never given. Instead, that damning third message from the seller is sent. Ouch! Are you saying that you would feel justified in sending a similarly rude, unprofessional, condescending message? I certainly hope not.

In my opinion, the buyer is not a whole lot better: in his complaint, he is exaggerating the extent of the seller's evasiveness as well as the additional charges. But guess what? It's his money to spend. A buyer expects a modicum of professionalism, which includes unambiguous answers without insults, and a reasonable expectation that their purchase will be delivered in a timely manner. Don?t forget that the buyer is doing the seller a favor by purchasing the goods, not the other way around. Therefore, the onus is on the seller to earn the buyer?s money. That includes putting the buyer at ease and making him comfortable about the transaction. Amateurish replies to questions that include ?might,? ?try,? and the rather improper ?damn, if you don't understand that, I don't know what will. . .,? do not accomplish that. Sorry, pal, NO SALE.
