this is the same setup.exe that archangel uses, I think you can brand your own free isp like archangel and these guys, it would be the same.

The ISP is called Bluelight as in K-Mart Bluelight special.

I don't think you have to worry about K-Mart's ISP (Bluelight) as being a "scam." I would say this ISP is comparable to Netzero.

These are the same dialup numbers I use with Juno (free version) in my area, Iowa City, IA. Which just goes to show the that the free ISP industry is just about as dead as a Dodo bird. And the new version of Juno even hoodwinks the user into a distributed computing agreement. See Ars Technica for more info (article Juno@Home 02/05/2001).

As a side question...

I have a friend who is looking to upgrade from NetZero to genuine, regular internet access. Do you know of anywhere that has unlimited internet access, and one email account for $10 or less per month?

It really doesn't matter if the phone numbers match that of other ISP phone numbers. Many of these ISPs use modem pools in various cities that they share. I know sprint does this with their IP Tunneling service, so its possible with other ISPs as well.

Of course, I may be wrong..

AT&T is advertising unlimited ISP for $7@ month, but you have to also use the long distance phone service, .07 @ minute, I don't know what the long distance instate charge is.

I hooked my mother up with AT&T Worldnet i4.95 service recently.
It is worlds better in speed that the Bluelight.com she used previously.
Plus they don't automatically log you off every 40 minutes.

It has a "toolbar" that stays on the screen all the time, but it sits near the top-right of the screen in an area unused by IE. Little ads pop up every couple of minutes, but it's still less obtrusive that the Bluelight ad bar that took up almost a third of her screen.

The AT&T 7/7 plan includes the i4.95 service as it's internet component(with toolbar), except there is no 150 hour a month limit (at least that is my understanding).

They say in their agreement that they will track everything you do whie on the internet, so that they can market to you. If you care about that sort of thing...

I have the $4.95 AT&T worldnet service. It is decent once you log on. Sometimes I have trouble logging on at night because it is busy. The connection speed is no more than 28.8 which is kinda slow but there isn't much alternatives in my area. For the money it's not too bad. But the reliability & speed is kinda iffy.
