Another K6-2 question

Thanks for the feedback on OCing my k6-2 500, I've come to the conclusion that it's pretty much a lost cause. Now I have another question, any ideas on why I can't run it at the default voltage settings with any hint of stability? At 2.2v I get random BSOD and any higher I get registry errors repeatedly (and it doesn't even get very warm). Right now, I'm running it at 2.1v and it seems stable. I thought these things were supposed to be able to run at 2.6v with no problems.

Well, this thread was met with even less enthusiasm than my last, hmmm... Does this mean that I'm on my own trying to figure this out? I was thinking that maybe I happened to get a mis-labeled cpu and that it wasn't designed to run at over 2.1v, Does this sound plausible to anyone?

On another note, which would fry first, the mobo or the cpu? I was toying with the idea of OCing a couple of old K5's to the frying point just for s&g's.

btw...my mothers K6-2 400Mhz would not even overclock to 450Mhz..
Maybe you just got a Borderline 500Mhz CPU?

u could try running at 4 x 124FSB for a slight improvement in memory performance ;-)

Speed01, it may be that the cpu power supply on your board is at the edge. When the K6 CPU's above 400MHz started coming out, mods were done to the boards(done by the manufacturer) to make then able to supply the cpu with the power it needed. The manufacturer would list the ECN number that had to be noted on which revision level to support a given speed of cpu. You may have the right revision level but are missing the ECN modification to run the higher voltage.

Get a k6-2+ or K6-3+. I just got a 475 K6-2+ from Tiger Direct last week for 49.99.Its running rock solid at 622. 5.5x112=616. I guess the motherboard is putting 113 instead of 112 because it says 622 when I boot up. I'm running on a FIC VA503+. Found the BIOS buried on their Taiwan site. I was runnig a K6-2 350 oc'd to 392 (3.5x112) stable as hell. I ran it at 400 (4x100) for a while but it kept crashing. The k6-2 can only be oc'd by FSB. The k6-2+ or 3+ can be oc'd by multiplier and FSB. Tiger also has K6-2+ 450's for 44.99. They might hit 616 too.
