Nope, those are some of the top drivers flying through the air. Rally's like that....the difference between winning and wadding your car into a ball is a very fine one.

Man that was friggin awesome. You could tell that one car hit a tree in the side. Man I hope that guy was ok. That looked bad. Ouch was what I thought. You have to be a friggin nut to race over hills on dirt and snow at that speed. Holy cow they go fast. I would love to have a car with that kind of power... one car smoked all 4 tires going around a corner, now that is power... drool

WRC cars are currently limited to 300bhp whereas the open class cars here in the states are limited to 400bhp.

Get a car and all the other stuff required by the SCCA (fire suit, helmet, etc) and go enter some events. You can run pretty much any kind of car you want....I've seen everything from 5-liter Mustangs to RX-7s to pickup trucks. Kick enough ass and you'll start attracting sponsors. My brother's "weekend job" is as one of the service monkeys for a Mazda-sponsored friend of his. He travels a ton since the events are all over the place, but loves it.

Be warned; it's a super-expensive sport. Entry fees alone will run you hundreds of dollars per event.

Getting started in SCCA Pro rally.

Good info . If I could choose a profession where money wasn't an object, this is one of the things I'd do.

Thanks Fausto

Cool. Yeah, I think it would be on the expensive side to race a car, tear it up, fix it, race again, etc. Looks like fun, though!

My brother and I are slowly getting into it. He picked up a 1st-gen RX-7 with a blown motor that we're going to convert to a dedicated autocross car first and finally to a full-blown rally car once we've got the loot for the roll cage, spares and all the other crap. It's expensive, so we're progressing slowly as money allows.

Autocross is cheap to get into BTW. Go get a helmet and flog your Miata around a bit.

Did anybody else notice the one clip when the navigator is leaning over, ratcheting at some bolt on the steering wheel while the driver is driving?

That was Tommi Makinen crashing in spectactular fashion at Argentina. Thankfully neither he nor his co-driver were hurt.

Nothing like the B-class cars of the 80's though. Some of those had ludicrous gobs of power, enough to be axed cause of the fatalities that resulted. :Q

Yeah, the Group B cars were truly nuts. There were a few that exceeded 1000 bhp IIRC.....literally not driveable.
